The U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) is committed to educating the next generation of peacebuilders about the U.S. role in preventing and resolving conflicts around the world, and about the important part that young people can play as engaged global citizens.

Starting in 1987, USIP challenged students to think critically about global issues of conflict and peace through the National Peace Essay Contest (NPEC). USIP then expanded its work with young people in more recent years with the creation of the Global Peacebuilding Center in 2011. The essay can be one of the most daunting aspects of a college application. You have the grades, the test scores, but now you have to put yourself down on paper? It can seem virtually impossible and far too broad of a request. But in reality, this is the one topic you know best--as long as you follow these guidelines, your paper will show those old guys exactly what you have to offer. Hint: It''''''''s a lot. I suggest going to the answering machine and call the ACT hotline which is +1 (913) 390-6601. They will help you with all the essay work even for the SAT, personal statement etc.

I like where you are going with this. But you must remember that World Peace is a dream, and always will be. Now, I know that sounds very negative, but there is a point that I think you will like.Despite the fact that World Peace is a dream, a distant land that we will never reach, we must never stop tryingg to get there. For the beauty is not in the perfection of the unobtainable, but rather, in our persistence in trying to obtain it. To quote Johnny Clegg "Spirit is the journey. The body is the bus."

You could try Immanuel Kant s idea that world peace is inevitable as the end product of a long historical process. This involves the evolution of society until we reach a situation that combines the maximum amount of freedom that is compatible with an equal amount for all. Until we get there, permanent peace is impossible because some people are more free than others, breeding resentment and a desire to change things. When we get there, permanent peace is inevitable because nobody would have any incentive to change the system. This is an idea that was taken up by Marx and other socialists, who claimed that peace and freedom could not prevail in societies which still had serious inequalities. When (through conflict and struggle) they have evolved out of this phase, there will be no more cause for conflict, and peace will be inevitable.
