Cheerleading Cheerleading is a very popular sport these days. They cheer for many different sports like football, and basketball. Many people go to the games to see the cheerleaders. They also, have cheer offs to see who’s team is the best. In the following paragraphs I will tell you how it all started, what the first organization was, and how it is today. First, cheerleading first acme about in the 1870s; it was established by a pep club at Princeton University. They first called cheerleading the “yell”. According to legend a guy named Thomas Peebler put a group of guys on the sidelines of Princeton’s first football game to do the yell. Even though it had been used on the day cheerleading was invented, the 1990s found the megaphone very popular. The first homecoming game was held at the University of Illinois in 1910. Then in 1920, yell leaders started bringing noisemakers like drums and shakers to the games. As football got more and more popular, so did cheerleading. In the 1920s woman became more active in cheerleading. Minnesota cheerleaders took up gymnastics and also put some tumbling into their cheers. However in the 1930s high schools and Universities started using pom-poms in their routines. Pom-poms are still widely used. Early in the 1940s, when the men went to war not only did the women go to work, but they got to join cheerleading teams. When the men returned there were all kinds of new twists and turns added to the teams. As cheerleading progressed, it became more of a woman’s sport. In 1948, Laurence “Hurkie” Hurkimer organized the first cheerleading camp in Huntsville’s Sam Houston University with just 52 girls in attendance. http://www.exampleessays.com/viewpaper/21210.html Hell s Angels During World War II, a group of military planes roared across Europe’s skies known as Hell’s Angels. The people in these crews were tight knit gentlemen. Not a single drunkard in the group of pilots. They helped many times in defeating the enemies in the islands. In 1948, a punk on the streets of San Bernardino stole the name and used it for his motorcycle gang that defied authority wherever they spread. From then on whenever someone hears the name Hell’s Angels, you think of nothing but bikes, beers, babes, and brawls. In the beginning Sonny Just wanted to find a group of guys who liked to ride motorcycles and would come together at the first sign of trouble, much like a family would. Finding new recruits to put through this process was a long and toilsome task. Recruits had to undergo a long period of evaluation to prove that they would never let their brothers down and always support the club, no matter what (Walter Kern 1). Along the way the Hell’s Angels found themselves in direct opposition with the law, and always for a variety of reasons. The ties of brotherhood were strong though, should any Hell’s Angels member have a run-in with the law, all of the present Angel California is still the holy land to all Hell’s Angels members, but like any good club they’ve expanded. They now have about 2,100 members in about 193 chapters worldwide. Some chapters are in South Africa, Belgium, and Canada. In fact a 2002 report from Canada’s Criminal Intelligence Service stated that the Hell’s Angels “persist as the largest and most criminally active outlaw motorcycle gang in the country (January Maxim, 92).” Their quests have even taken them to Scandinavia, and lead Denmark to enforce “Rocker Laws” (January Maxim, 92) that prohibit the public gathering of groups like the Hell’s Angels. The Hell’s Angels are a band of brothers that will do anything for each other, even kill. A willingness to stick together like this can come in handy sometimes. But they don’t like to talk much about what goes on inside their ring of fire, and they know when they’ve said too much and will get the beating of their life for it. One of the most famous Hell’s Angels members is a former leader named Ralph “Sonny” Barger. When interviewed by Maxim magazine he said,“ We started out in the 50’s having fun, riding motorcycles. In the 60’s we were beating people up and taking drugs. And in the 70’s and 80’s we got into crime and prison. The 90’s came and we straightened up our lives. Now it’s about riding motorcycles and having fun again (January Maxim, 92)).” Now as lovely as this sounds, it’s not http://www.exampleessays.com/viewpaper/97729.html -
