Growing up I never had a hero. I always thought it was a bogus idea to look up to someone when they haven’t done anything to actually gain your respect. I always thought that there was no one who I would admire in my life. The reasons being because everywhere you look people are shallow, they never think of others. But in recent years I’ve actually found a hero, someone who I can admire with my heart and be proud to say he’s who I admire. That person is my brother.

I have three brothers. I could lie and say they were always caring but I won’t. Growing up, most times they were harsh. I never had anyone to play with me or have a conversation with. They always looked down on me since I was the youngest. Since the biggest age gap was between me and them, sometimes they would take time to talk to me but most times they were off in their own world. But all of them had their good traits and the one I most admire is my second-oldest brother. Like me he is gay, and he’s gone through so much more than I have.

I really enjoy being able to automate the functions I want to happen automatically without feeling that I am not in control of my documents. The ability to change formatting and font with one simple command rather than drag over the entire document is great. I absolutely LOVE reveal codes for cleaning up web downloads and finding and fixing problems in a document. Direct importation and editing of PDF documents is much appreciated. The ability to open and edit virtually every other document format is especially valuable for those of use with 30+ years of documents.

If you’re a high schooler who lives in Westport, Connecticut, you could end up $1,000 richer if you nail first prize in a municipally sponsored essay contest — and all you have to do is describe in 1,000 words or less your thoughts on “white privilege.”

“As the nation faces historic social shifts relating to race and identity, young people will find themselves at the crossroads of a different America,” the page about the contest on the town’s website notes, adding that “white privilege” became “a topic during the recent presidential election.”

I’m so tired of white guys on TV telling me what to eat. I’m tired of Anthony Bourdain testing the waters of Korean cuisine to report back that, not only will our food not kill you, it actually tastes good. I don’t care how many times you’ve traveled to Thailand, I won’t listen to you—just like the white kids wouldn’t listen to me, the half-Korean girl, defending the red squid tentacles in my lunch box. The same kids who teased me relentlessly back then are the ones who now celebrate our cuisine as the Next Big Thing.

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in a small college town that was about 90 percent white. In my adolescence I hated being half Korean; I wanted people to stop asking, “Where are you really from?” I could barely speak the language and didn’t have any Asian friends. There was nothing about me that felt Korean—except when it came to food.

Just tell the truth. Start with, "I want to become a nurse because.." and go from there. The most simple rule of starting off an essay like that is to reword the question in your first sentence. I can t tell you what else to write because I don t know why you want to become a nurse. Most people become nurses because they love medicine, love people, want to help sick people, care about people and it s a great career with good money too. I m also curious, what kind of school is making you do this? Is it for RN?
