    2. Although the night life was all glitter and glamor at West Egg, when the lights went out, money could not buy Jay Gatsby happiness.

The American Dream is a 30 minute animated film that shows you how you''ve been scammed by the most basic elements of the government system.

From the author : All of us Americans strive for the American Dream, and this film shows you why your dream is getting farther and farther away. Do you know how your money is created? Or how banking works? Why did housing prices skyrocket and then plunge? Do you really know what the Federal Reserve System is and how it affects you every single day?

Mr. Sloane, an obvious East Egger as he is with Tom, simply does not allow Gatsby to join them for dinner. This is not because he is not viable or rich enough to be considered, but because he is a West Egger and “new money”. However Gatz does not comprehend the underlying message and leaves to prepare for the dinner. This naivety is what pushes him into failure, he thinks that his cars and his house will change things. In Kanye’s words, “And for that paper, look how low we a’stoop, Even if you in a Benz, you still in a coupe,” James lowers himself just to be accepted, but even when he drives his extravagant cars, he will never ride horses like the East Eggers do, and to them his golden car is just like everybody else’s. http://studend.wordpress.com/poverty-as-a-theme-in-relation-to-the-great-gatsby/ "Gatsby shouldered the mattress and started for the pool. Once, he stopped and shifted it a little and the chauffeur asked him if he needed help, but he shook his head and in a moment disappeared among the yellowing trees." This quote is telling of Gatsby s character and it is in stark contrast to that of Daisy s. If he had been an East Egger, he most likely would have had the raft carried by someone else. But because he refuses help and carries it himself, it symbolizes his independence. In contrast to the "old money" folks in the book, Gatsby had too work for his money. And before he was able to attain it, he had to experience the trials of everyday life that builds character, something that Daisy, Tom, and Jordan wouldn t know much about. Although Gatsby did attain his money through illegal activity, he put in the work nonetheless. It is also somewhat noble because he did it for love. His only goal in becoming rich was to be able to provide for Daisy and have her love him. http://qap.upsd.wikispaces.net/Gatsby+Chapter+8+Mod+3 Gatsby can never break into that society, and this is never more clear than when Nick remarks that as Gatsby watches over Daisy, he is "watching over nothing" (145). Gatsby cannot have Daisy because he is not in her class; he will always be new money, a West Egger, "Mr. Nobody from Nowhere" (130). This is kind of what Dan Frechter discussed in his post; Daisy is unattainable. More than that, though, Fitzgerald is suggesting that the whole American Dream is unattainable. Gatsby did everything and more to achieve his dreams, but in the end, it was only just a dream, reflecting Nick s lament about "the unreality of reality" because that "rock of the world. founded securely on a fairy s wing" really is just a rock. http://msarnaboldisgatsby.blogspot.gr/2011_04_01_archive.html For FAQ http://quizlet.com/21478862/the-great-gatsby-flash-cards/ AAA

hmmm not sure if these guys are in your list.but you MUST listen to Broken Social Scene. judging by the gist of artists you ve got up there, i m sure they would be right up your alley. listen to their album You Forgot It In People.just amazing ! TV On The Radio is one of my favourites.they ve been compared quite a lot to Arcade Fire, and have had Bowie feature in one of their best songs (Province). my favourite of their albums is Return To Cookie Mountain.and they ve also got an awesome EP called Young Liars. Surfer Blood s debut album Astro Coast is kind of beach-rock and is very very nice. Atlas Sound is another one i d suggest.not sure if you included him in your lengthy lenghty list haha.(extremely talented) singer of Deerhunter s solo moniker.listen to his latest album Logos - i m sure you ll enjoy if you re a Deerhunter fan. Panda Bear is the solo moniker of one of the Animal Collective singers (Noah Lennox).his album Person Pitch is unbelieeevable you must hear. though it does take a while to warm to his stuff, it took me a few listens to really appreciate the album..( Take Pills.one of the greatest songs ever) fiiiinally.there is Sigur Rós. a lot of people aren t very receptive to these guys cause they don t sing in english (they re icelandic) but they are absolutely amaaazing. their album Ágætis Byrjun completely changed the way i look at music.it is innncredible. Starálfur - my favourite song of all time.and Hoppípolla definitely up there around the top 10. hope you enjoy!

I absolutely do NOT reccommend The Great Gatsby and The Scarlet Letter. Those were the most boring books I have evr read in my life. I strongly reccommend that you read To Kill a Mockingbird. Of Mice and Men is okay too.
