First, read the stories. A necessary background piece. Second, find (at least) three ways in which they're kinda similiar, but also different: how they approach something, or something about the characters, or the theme of the stories. Third, write your thesis statement. Write one sentence where you summarize your entire position (those three things) into one sentance. And example for different stories: Uncle Tom's Cabin and Huck Finn both promote racial equality, through stereotypical characterization, realistic plot elements, and direct appeals to the reader. Fourth, find quotes to support each of your points. Take one sentence or shorter chunks straight from the stories. These chunks need to help you prove and support your points. You want (at least) three chunks for each point. Fifth, organize your paragraphs. Start with an introduction. Hook the reader and make him think about what you want him to think about. Offer something intersting, or connect the paper to him in some way. Then, state your thesis. Your thesis is the last sentance of your introduction. Next, write your first point paragraph. First sentence is your topic sentence: Your point. Then write an intro to your quote, your quote, then an explaination of the quote that explains how that quote proves your thesis. The explaination is not a summary, but a link from the quote to the thesis. Then, do the same structure for your next two quotes. And then add a conculding sentance for the paragraph. And example (with two quotes): Stowe and Twain both twist the stereotypical African-American character types to support racial equality. George in Uncle Tom's Cabin, a smart and hard-working African-American man, loves his wife and child deeply, but still chooses to run away in order to maintain his dignity. "Insert quote here. I can't think of one off the top of my head." George knows the risks involved in running away, but still cannnot stand to work for a man dummer and lazier than he is. In Huck Finn, Twain creates Jim, Huck's black friend who sounds a lot dummer than he is. In reality, Jim teaches Huck kindness, humility, and friendship. "'Oh, I'll go to hell,'" Huck tears up his note to the Widow because he simply cannot bear to betray his friend, something he had little problem doing earlier in the novel. Huck and George both show the reader their human-ness, and in doing so, convince the reader that they are just like them. Next, write your second point paragraph. Use the same structures as you used for the first. Then, write your third point paragraph. Use the same structure again. Last, write your conclusion. You want to tie up any loose ends and make the reader think again. Make a prediction, tell the reader to do something. Add another interesting tidbit. Note: as you write, assume the reader has read the stories. Don't summerize plot points or describe characters. Assume the readers knows this, but is just really dumb and can't make the conclusions that you're making. He needs you to spell it out for him really clearly. Good luck and happy writing.

It s compare and contrast, not contract btw. You can compare and contrast: Canada and the U.S.; a Mercedes and a VW Jetta; a lion and a house cat; WWI and WWII; HBO and Showtime; Death Valley and Libya; Catholicism and Lutheranism; Atari and XBox; man-made diamonds and natural diamonds; etc.
