Comments : Selecting subjects that matter to students is critical for this step. One might be to compare two models of cars and then write a letter to a benefactor who might buy them one. Another would be a store manager writing to a buyer about two products. Academic topics such as comparing two organisms, two wars, two approaches to solving a math problem may also be useful.

Comments : Spend a few classes on this. Although it seems simple, students doing it for the first time perform better if not rushed through this step. Working in teams, with a partner, or in a group is helpful.

The purpose of a compare and contrast essay is to analyze the differences and/or the similarities of two distinct subjects. A good compare/contrast essay doesn’t only point out how the subjects are similar or different (or even both!). It uses those points to make a meaningful argument about the subjects. While it can be a little intimidating to approach this type of essay at first, with a little work and practice, you can write a great compare-and-contrast essay!

The motives for founding the new England colonies; massachusetts, rhode island, new Hampshire, and Connecticut, were religous, as they were making a pilgrimage from England as the only acceptable religion in England at the time was Anglicanism an most of these colonists were english puritans. Though they had left England for religious freedoms, most of the new England colonies would only allow those religions closest to their own if not just there own, to settle there. There were no social castes yet, as most everyone in new England was poor until the 1700s. The economic foundations were minimal, the colonists were usually subsistence farmers, fishermen, or vice royals. There was little or no democracy in these colonies and they were rules by a monarch appointed governor. In the middle colonies, new york, Pennsylvania, new jersey, and sometimes delaware is considered a middle colony, the motives for founding were usually economic. Delaware was founded by the Swedes for solely economic gain. New Jersey was founded by a man who had received it as a gift and he promised settlers representative government, and freedom of religion. Pennsylvania was founded mainly by Quakers to escape religious persecution elsewhere. New York was founded by the Dutch in an attempt at economic gain. All of these colonies had no real religious composition other than Pennsylvania which was afore mentioned. Most people in these colonies were not wealthy, though not poor, their lives usually depended on trade. The political development in these colonies were similar to that of the new England colonies, once British rule was installed, so was a royal governor. Hope I helped a bit, and I apologise for my poor capitalisation, as I am typing this on an iPhone so it auto-corrects "misdoings".

Rome The capital and largest city of Italy, in the west-central part of the country on the Tiber River. Traditionally founded by Romulus in 753 B.C., it was ruled first by Etruscans, who were overthrown c. 500 B.C. The Roman Republic gradually extended its territory and expanded its influence, giving way to the Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus (27 B.C.–A.D. 14). As capital of the empire, Rome was considered the center of the known world, but the city declined when Constantine transferred his capital to Byzantium (323). Alaric I conquered the city in 410, leading to a lengthy period of devastation by barbarian tribes. In the Middle Ages the city revived as the spiritual and temporal power of the papacy increased. During the 1800s Rome was held at various times by the French until it became the capital of Italy in 1871. Vatican City remains an independent enclave within the confines of Rome. Population: 2,550,000. Byzantine Empire, successor state to the Roman Empire (see under Rome), also called Eastern Empire and East Roman Empire. It was named after Byzantium, which Emperor Constantine I rebuilt (A.D. 330) as Constantinople and made the capital of the entire Roman Empire. Although not foreseen at the time, a division into Eastern and Western empires became permanent after the accession (395) of Honorius in the West and Arcadius in the East. Throughout its existence the Byzantine Empire was subject to important changes in its boundaries. The core of the empire consisted of the Balkan Peninsula (i.e., Thrace, Macedonia, Epirus, Greece proper, the Greek isles, and Illyria) and of Asia Minor (present-day Turkey). The empire combined Roman political tradition, Hellenic culture, and Christian beliefs. Greek was the prevalent language, but Latin long continued in official use For more info check http://www.answers.com /topic/byzantine-empire gatita_63109

Big things to look at are literature, art, and religion. Art, look at major renaissance artists and compare to medieval artists (perception, relative size, dimensions, stuff like that). Religion, look at the introduction to Protestantism and the reasons it came about (think England - Henry VIII and Germany - Martin Luther). Also look who was in charge of the papacy during this time period. Literature, look at the different types of plays (morality vs tragedy, comedy, etc.), the books/manuscripts (The Courtier, The Prince, The Faerie Queene, etc), poetry. These are some of the major differences between Medieval and Renaissance eras. Also you might want to just concentrate on one country - there are so many things that differed from country to country. Also you might want to look into the views of Witchcraft and magic during these time periods (Spain, France, Germany, Italy, England, Scotland, etc.). Good luck!

This type of essay is basically a composition, which is concentrated on two points. The compare and contrast essay reveals the differences and the similarities of these two points, things, situations, etc. The main task of any writer is to find as many similarities and a difference, as it is possible.

In order to write a professional compare and contrast essay it is necessary to remember that it is vital to identify the points of comparison. This is a major requirement because without this proper identification the essay will not have a correct logical form. To make a detailed compare and contrast essay the first step is to point out the key aspects and do a research on the topic including articles and books.
