    This is the problem some have discerning between chat and business talk. Communication is necessary to inform others in the workplace what has been done and looked after. It is also necessary when a worker is unsure of how much they have accomplished in a task and when/whether it is appropriate to pass the remainder on to another employee (with discussion as to what has been done and what has not). Otherwise some work will get done more than once and some will not be done at all. There have been times in a factory setting when a second worker will be injured by an inoperative (or improperly running) piece of machinery when folks have failed to warn the second person that someone else was already injured and it is up for repair. Even a simple note Do not use did not appear on the machine in question. A family member of mine worked in an office setting many years ago. An efficiency expert came through and noted the staff spent too much time talking. A decree went through that staff from hence forward were no longer to engage in conversation. Efficiency dropped like a lead balloon. [Since this was a government office, maybe they still haven t noticed - apologies for the cryptic comment.]
