I would appreciate the opportunity to develop my inherent strengths and interests into a successful and fulfilling career and transform my personal goals into a reality. It would be an honor to have the privilege to continue my personal development at the School of Social Work at Rutgers-Camden. If nothing else, I can guarantee that I will put my best foot forward if given the opportunity. I know that I have found a perfect personal and academic fit in Social Work. I can only hope that you can find a place in your program for a student such as me. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Graduate and professional schools often require some sort of written statement -- often called a "statement of purpose," "personal statement," or "letter of intent"-- as a part of the application. Some statements require rather specific information--for example, the applicant's intended area of study within a graduate field. Still others are quite unstructured, leaving the applicant free to address a wide range of matters. The importance of the statement varies from school to school and from field to field.

Usually the purpose is to persuade the admissions committee that you are an applicant who should be chosen. Whatever its purpose, the content must be presented in a manner that will give coherence to the whole statement.

I would liken the Personal Statement to a "Mission Statement". (Which is a short 1-3 sentence synopsis of your interests/goals etc.) Good luck!

Welcome to EssayEdge''s Graduate School Statements 101! Our experts have assembled the most comprehensive course on the Internet to help you compose successful graduate school essays. A personal statement or autobiographical essay represents a graduate school''s first qualitative introduction to the way you think and to the way you express yourself. The personal statement must serve as a reflection of your personality and intellect. You must sell yourself through this statement, just as you would through a successful job interview. Preparation and personal reflection are essential.

If you find it difficult to write about yourself, don''t be discouraged. Having assisted tens of thousands of applicants, we can assure you that everyone has problems composing these statements. If you have a friend who finishes one in two hours flat and doesn''t agonize over what he or she is writing, chances are it''s not a statement that will do much to enhance his or her prospects for admission. Good essays take time. Bad ones can hurt your chances for admission.

Most of those who have been through the process of applying to graduate school will agree writing the personal statement was the most difficult and stressful part. Part of the problem for many is that they set out to write their personal statement without a clear set of guidelines for what to include, and with some uncertainty about exactly how it will be used in evaluating their application.

This is the first of a series of 5 articles related to preparing a personal statement. We try to give the reader a perspective on how the personal statement is used by members of a selection committee, or by a prospective graduate supervisor. Understanding the perspective of these important decision makers is essential to making good decisions about what to include and exclude from the statement, and appropriate and inappropriate ways to say certain things. (These latter aspects of preparing the personal statement will be dealt with in the remaining articles of the series).

You are setting this up as an either/or dilemma and it does not have to be. Out-and-out lying is a poor idea, not least of all because you can be found out. But there is nothing in any way wrong with presenting yourself in the best possible light. Indeed that is to be expected. Get some advice from a professor you trust, someone who will be writing a letter for you in support of your application. Let her/him look over a draft of your statement letter and give some guidance. I do that for my students all the time; we know what looks good and what does not. Good luck.

The elderly and children, represent the social groups I believe need the most representation. I am passionate about the treatment of our elders, and I realize that as demographics trend toward aging population current problems in the mistreatment of the elderly will only be exacerbated in the future. The protection of children is another social problem I hope to contribute to solving.    Children are the future and it is our job to make sure that they have the tools to reach their fullest potential.

Some statements require rather specific information--for example, the applicant''s intended area of study within a graduate field.

Welcome to EssayEdge's Graduate School Statements 101! Our experts have assembled the most comprehensive course on the Internet to help you compose successful graduate school essays. A personal statement or autobiographical essay represents a graduate school's first qualitative introduction to the way you think and to the way you express yourself. The personal statement must serve as a reflection of your personality and intellect. You must sell yourself through this statement, just as you would through a successful job interview. Preparation and personal reflection are essential.

If you find it difficult to write about yourself, don't be discouraged. Having assisted tens of thousands of applicants, we can assure you that everyone has problems composing these statements. If you have a friend who finishes one in two hours flat and doesn't agonize over what he or she is writing, chances are it's not a statement that will do much to enhance his or her prospects for admission. Good essays take time. Bad ones can hurt your chances for admission.

Your personal statement for graduate school should focus on your specific interests and goals as they pertain to academics.

Many people dread writing an essay of any kind, especially when it is part of an application process. Your statement may be in response to questions posed by the graduate program in your application documents. Or, you might simply be responding to a brief directive to write about the area of study you intend to focus on and why.
