The first and third articles argue for an emphasis on stages of social development in which middle-class owners and civil society—not mere elections—are prerequisites to a democratic society. Our second article argues that the field of Peace and Conflict Studies has evolved in stages following wars that take on new dimensions when mechanisms for preventing former wars are circumvented. In this issue of International Journal on World Peace, three articles probe the creation of peaceful and legitimate states. Since the rise of modern democracies, people have believed that having elections would make states legitimate because every citizen would have a right to participate in governance. Such simple views fail to ask whether (1) the governance system gives all groups access to power, or (2) whether people are capable of voting as responsible citizens.

Ritu Raj made into Indian Administrative Service (IAS) this year with All-India Rank 69 in UPSC Civil Services Exam. He had shared one of his essays he wrote in October 2014 during his UPSC preparation days  for the readers of clearias.com. We are sure that this write-up can help lot of aspirants not only in essay writing, but also in General Studies papers. Clear IAS, on behalf of our readers, congratulate Ritu Raj for his exceptional performance in UPSC CSE 2014. We wish you all the best and a successful career!

The first PM of India had referred the Industries of India as “temples of modern democracy” and it can hardly be refuted today. The industries of India were one of the major entities to protect the democracy of India, to check the growth of Neo-Imperialism that pervaded through the cold war and thereby helped sustain the economy and civil libertarian democracy which was left devastated and exploited at the dawn of independence.

The temptation toward simplicity is evident even in the question posed in this debate. The framing reveals a fundamental error: that violent extremism is fundamental to Islam rather than committed by individuals. The fact that there is violence emanating from parts of the Muslim world does not mean that violence is a product of the religion.

To grasp this complexity, it is important to understand three areas: the role of global politics that have destabilized the region and inflamed tensions; how dysfunctional states create an opening for extremism; and finally, how religion fills the gaps created by international and domestic uncertainties.

Yes, some guard units are still deploying, but nothing like they have been They have been canceling guard deployments for the last 6 months. 2. Why was the guard deployed so much ( once every 5 years ) the last 10 years ? because in the 1990 s after the gulf war, the US military was cut by over 40% And because they tried to call some guard units to active duty in the gulf war, but they were not combat ready They decided to reorganize the guard So now the guard is better trained, but they now have a larger role in on going deployments Guard units are round out units for active duty units A smaller active duty military, means guard units will always be used and deployed in conflicts from now on.
