    I alsmot never happens naturally, but it occurs when compounds like carbon monoxide and or dioxide (CO, CO2) and varous others are in large abbundance in the atmosphere. When rai falls through these gases, it collects little particles of the compunds which make the rain acidic

    There are no logical arguments about it not being harmful. It is full of sulfur dioxide and other noxious chemicals which are corrosive. It can be either man made by pollution or natural from volcanoes. The degree of acidity determines how harmful it is.

    There are cons? Normal rain is acidic (about pH 5.6). "Acid" rain has less pH than 5. According to the US 1980 National Acid Precipitation Assessment Program, 1) only 4% of the lakes documented (240/7,000) in the northeastern region had a pH less that 5. Also, 2) the average acidity of northeastern lakes today is roughly THE SAME as it was prior to the Industrial Revolution (Some have become more acisic and some have become less so.). 3) There is NO current increase of the average acidity of lake. 4) Most of the lakes that became acidic in the last 40 years were just returning to their normal rate. Before 1930, slash-and-burn logging near lakes created an alkaline runoff that neutralized the acidity of the lakes. When the logging stopped, the lakes returned thier acidity to normal. 5) Many of the northeaster lakes can be easily treated by dropping lime annually. No need for multi-million dollar government regulations. 6) Only 0.1% of eastern forests were threatened in any way by "acid" rain. Of course the Environmentalists suppressed this information.
