Your introduction just has to outline what it is you intend to prove in the body of your essay, clearly and concisely. If, for example, you are writing an essay on the subject, "Dogs make better companion animals than cats," all you d have to write in your introduction is why you believe that dogs are better pets. Later, you ll have to support that argument, but the introduction is just to let your reader know what you ll be attempting to prove. Hope that helps!

A general essay should contain a topic sentence, this is usually the first sentence in your first paragraph that states what your going to be writing about. Also in this paragraph it should have a thesis statement. The thesis statement has the ideas or statements to be discussed in the essay. Then you present your ideas or statements one by one in a paragraph, usually in three paragraphs. Each paragraph should present one statement at a time and supporting details. Finally, your final paragraph, or conclusion, should sum up all the ideas written in your essay, this paragraph does not present new information, it is the closure of the essay.
