Renowned graphic designer Michael Bierut created much of the Bulletin ’s current visual look and feel. He also created the near-perfect logo—the letter H with a horizontal arrow integrated and driving forward—for Hillary Clinton’s less-than-perfect 2016 presidential campaign. In a recent Design Observer piece, Bierut explains the equally surprising journey during which the Hillary 2016 logo went from panned to praised to past tense.

Unfortunately, most power plants are not very efficient: in a typical old plant running on coal, only about a third of the energy locked inside the fuel is converted to electricity and the rest is wasted. Newer designs, such as combined cycle power stations (which we''''''''ll explore in a minute) may be up to 50 percent efficient. As the chart here shows, even more electricity is squandered on the journey from the power plant to your home. Adding all the losses together, only about a fifth of the energy in the fuel is available as useful energy in your home.

The airspace over the Dimona facility is closed to all aircraft, and the area around it is heavily guarded and fenced off. During the Six-Day War , an Israeli missile shot down an Israeli Mirage III fighter that inadvertently flew over Dimona. [4] [5] In 1973 a strayed Libyan airliner was approaching the airspace above Dimona facility. Israeli fighters shot it down after failure to make it follow them, killing 108 people. [5] [6]

A nuclear power plant deals with chemistry only as it relates to the quality of the water circulating through the pipes. The water is carefully treated to minimize corrosion of the internal parts. The minor amount of radioactive isotopes dissolved in the water is only a minor safety concern, unless you decide to drink it and even then you d tend to pee it out fast enough that it wouldn t do you any lasting harm. Sorry, nuclear plants are very safe.

We use energy to do work. Energy lights our cities. Energy powers our vehicles, trains, planes and rockets. Energy warms our homes, cooks our food, plays our music, gives us pictures on television. Energy powers machinery in factories and tractors on a farm.

Energy from the sun gives us light during the day. It dries our clothes when they''re hanging outside on a clothes line. It helps plants grow. Energy stored in plants is eaten by animals, giving them energy. And predator animals eat their prey, which gives the predator animal energy.

Everything we do is connected to energy in one form or another.
