To Whom It May Concern: I am interested in Illinois State University. I was glad to read that you like me know that student motivation and academic preparation are not fully revealed by a student’s high school transcript or by standardized tests.

Highschool bored me, simply it was not challenging, highschool is no longer an institution which can provide an education sufficient to meet the challages of the modern economic situation. A highschool diploma is no longer a document which alone will allow an indivual to attain a job which will support a family. Also, the SAT is no longer a test which divides those who have studied and have made the effort to achieve, from those who bumble through school. At the point books were published on how to pass the SAT, it simply became another test which doesn’t prove anything definitely. Because of my viewpoint on highschool and the SAT I did not exert myself on either. I was reserving myself for college. College is the difference which makes the difference. Of two people applying for the same job, similar in everyway except for the fact that one is the holder of a college degree and the other is not, the degree holder is far more likely to get the job. Further, college is where I will learn the knowledge and skills I will use in the workforce of my generation.

There are three high school curriculum options for enrolled students. Most people choose our regular curriculum, the price of which varies by course.

The acronym GED stands for General Educational Development, not general equivalency diploma, for which it is often mistaken. Many indicators soundly show that holders of the GED fall behind their diploma-holding counterparts. The following are a few examples concerning future outcome differences:

However, for all the wage, labor market, and higher education differences there are between GED holders and diploma holders, there are just as stark differences in all areas between GED holders and high school dropouts who did not attain a GED. or High School Accreditation Classes; because you are looking to get a new or better job? Have employers told you no because you have not completed high school or any type of high school equivalency?

There are many misconceptions when it comes to graduating from high school. Many students believe that if they complete 12th grade they will automatically be awarded a public high school diploma which is Wrong. The majority of states across the nation require students to pass a final exit exam in order to be eligible for graduation and receive a high school diploma. If the student does not pass the final exit exam, the public high school awards a certificate of completion.

I don t think it should because the stuff is all very low level like fourth and fifth grade level plus it only puts value in math and english while people in the arts can earn much more money than someone with an english degree. Why does our society have to only put value on these two subjects? it doesn t even include science which is a very important field to the advancement of our society. I just don t think that whether you can graduate from high school or not should be judged by how well you write an essay or how many math formulas you have memorized it needs to be a more equal system so that students who learn differently can still receive a high school diploma!

The obvious reasons are to get a job (employers dont hire those who havent graduated at least high school) and to allow you to continue into secondary education if you so choose. But it also instills a feeling of self worth and accomplishment, as well as provides a strong knowledge base in many areas. To a certain extent, HS prepares us for our venture into the real world. We must be well-rounded in all subject matters and know at least something of our country s history, politics and the democratic process, general mathematics (used in everyday life, i.e., grocery shopping, paying bills, purchases, banking, taxes, business, etc.), science, proper grammar and punctuation.all these things we carry with us through our lifetime. Touch on all of these areas, as well as how employers are not interested in considering with anyone who cannot discuss world events, add or subtract, write a professional letter, etc. It doesnt take much to fill only 5 paragraphs. Good luck!
