Looking for a topic you can really sink your teeth into? The best topic is one that you truly care about, and one that you re prepared to research. You ll have to back up your claim (whichever side you choose) with lots of evidence and support.

The subject you choose should not necessarily be one that you are familiar with or one that you are in full agreement with. For example, in college you may be asked to write a paper from the opposing point of view. Researching a different point of view is how students broaden their perspectives.

Here s an article on how to write an argumentative essay: http://www.bellevuecollege.edu/asc/writing/essays-guides/documents/argumentativeessay.pdf Remember to research both sides of any argument, because it gives you counter-arguments. Current events are good, but better, argue a truly controversial topic, like gay marriage, gun control, assisted suicide, the death penalty. Remember, this is not about "I am right, because I said so and my dad was a very important person, and so am I.. but only on YA." It s about argument and logic. Keep it unemotional. http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/English/topicarg.html

nuclear power being bad or good for energy is a suggestion, so is the issue about banned books: why are the people with the issues about certain books getting away with having them banned in libraries and schools? like the childrens books about Dick and Jane for example. perfectly innocent words getting twisted into euphemisms. tsk tsk tsk another suggestion is how boredom is destroying the world-how crime rates, drug abuse, and pregnancies among youth and adults are high in areas not providing anyone with anything else to do with their free time.
