Guidelines to Problem Solving and Decision Making
Rational Versus Organic Approach to Problem Solving and Decision Making

General Guidelines to Problem Solving and Decision Making
Various Methods and Tools for Problem Solving and Decision Making
General Resources for Problem Solving and Decision Making

The recent transition to the information age has focused attention on the processes of problem solving and decision making and their improvement (e.g., Nickerson, Perkins, & Smith, 1985; Stice, 1987; Whimbey & Lochhead, 1982). In fact, Gagne (1974, 1984) considers the strategies used in these processes to be a primary outcome of modern education. Although there is increasing agreement regarding the prescriptive steps to be used in problem solving, there is less consensus on specific techniques to be employed at each step in the problem-solving/decision-making process.

One conclusion that may be drawn from these investigations is that individual differences in problem solving and decision making must be considered to adequately understand the dynamics of these processes (Stice, 1987). Attention must be paid to both the problem-solving process and the specific techniques associated with important personal characteristics. That is, individuals and organizations must have a problem-solving process as well as specific techniques congruent with individual styles if they are to capitalize on these areas of current research.

Mr. Nick, you are far from contact with reality. At seventeen you are so used the Internet and texting that first of all, you are not speaking with your parents. Next, you are a minor and cannot sign contracts. Next, you do not have a credit history. Next, you are asking strangers, and feel totally comfortable doing so, compared to seeking advise and counsel from family. The scenario is of a seventeen year old boy wishing to buy a performance vehicle without considering the costs as to insurance, fuel, service, repairs and such things as batteries, tires, etc.as to owning a car. Mr. Nick, this is the most incorrect of places for you to to be asking about your wishes. As I said, you cannot buy anything on your own. You cannot finance a car. If you can pay cash you can buy anything. No one will approve a loan for you. If you have the data for the car or cars as to year, make, model, etc. then youcan contact any auto insurance company for an estimate as to costs. Again, these are subjects best discussed with parents and no one else. And NIck, when writing US dollar amounts, a bare number is never acceptable. The dollar sign, $, is required before the numbers. $10,000 is correct. Please do so. As I am finished I have only one more recommendation. You need advanced driving lessons. Everyone does. Most people do not even read the car manual for information. Most people know about 10% of what they should know about cars, the laws, the physics, the common causes of crashes and in general, proper behavior behind the wheel. Please use Google to locate "teen driving courses" in your area, times and costs. YOU MUST GET lessons. Best of luck.
