Well, I don t know what academic level you re on so this may be overly-simple, but your thesis has to be that they re similar, but the large time gap between them also leads to differences. They both attack an entrenched, profitable system producing food in unethical, unhealthy and dangerous ways, for consumers, employees and the environment at large. Important questions are raised in both regarding the benefits and costs of a large corporate structure producing food as opposed to a smaller, more localized system. You could say they re different in that Upton Sinclair gave more attention to the plight of the workers involved while Food Inc. had increased focus on the global consequences which shows a more modern attitude. If your teacher is conservative, or likes hearing multiple sides, you could toss in something about the importance of private enterprise as a force for progress even if there s anecdotal evidence as in these two sources of abuses of the system.
