Don’t take that too personally, I’ve not actually seen your landing page yet. Rather, I’m going to cling to the assumption that it sucks simply because most of them do. Sad, but horribly true.

There are so many elements that a top-notch landing page needs, and making those elements the "best" they can be often depends on what your landing page goals are.

Take form length, for example. It''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s just one of the many components you need to optimize, but best practices will tell you that both short and long forms perform well -- it all depends on whether you want to generate a lot of (potentially) lower quality form submissions, or a smaller number of higher quality submissions.

Discussion of web design in companies who don''''''''''''''''t know the power of landing pages still often focuses on the home page. But savvy companies know that custom landing pages are essential to maximise conversion of leads when using inbound marketing techniques like SEO, AdWords and social media to drive visitors to a site.

Welcoming people has been a sign of respect and politeness for a long, long time. Businesses can do the same and welcome users who arrive at their page. Having a great Facebook landing page can also help to engage new users from the first interaction. Below is a list of Facebook welcome pages that are great for reasons such as engaging content, call-to-actions, incentives, design, interactivity and so on. While compiling this list I browsed about 600 or so Facebook pages from which most of them didn’t have a landing page or had a really poor one.

Gary Vaynerchuk ‘s landing page has a personal feel to it. He knows what interests people and provides great free advice in the form of videos. He posts inspirational quotes and even answers to comments.

If you got this far then you’re clearly one of the smartest marketers out there. Knowing what you know about landing pages puts you head and shoulders above your contemporaries.

So today we take it easy and sit and stare at some really awesome landing page examples. Each one has been selected for it’s excellence in one area or another, and each gets critiqued so you can see what’s good and what needs some A/B testing to iron out the wrinkles.

According to Eisenberg Holdings , companies typically spend $92 to bring customers to their pages, but only $1 to convert them.

    Click To Tweet

To put this another way, for every $92 of advertising revenue spent, only $1 is being invested into CRO and A/B testing efforts - you know, the part that actually turns your ad dollars into converting leads.

Your landing page will succeed or fail based on the written copy. No matter how well designed your page is… if the copy sucks… no one is going to buy it. Great copy rises above the design to convert visitors into leads.

What makes for great landing page copy? It’s something that piques  a readers interest and gets them to read more into the landing page. Great copy starts with the headline. Now lets look at some examples of remarkable landing page copy.

There are plenty of rules and principles of great design but when it comes to a website''s landing page, it is almost an exact science. It''s about ''conversion-centred design'', or using the design of the landing page to persuade a user towards a particular action.

The first, and arguably most important, task is to find a clear USP (unique selling point) for the product or service in question, and then use the landing page design to focus everything on one primary call to action (CTA). This might be getting the visitor to register their details, say, or make a purchase there and then. Whatever the goal, it''s up to the design of the page to channel the user towards it – whether through use of white space, contrasting colours or more explicit directional cues.

If you didn t know, basic websites are created from HTML and CSS. Those are the basic coding languages for website developing. What you just witnessed by clicking on view page source was the awesomeness of website coding. That code basically created the page that you can view from your browser.

A home page is defined as the first page you go to when you visit a website. For Yahoo it is http://www.yahoo.com. There is no requirement that you start there. You can go directly to Yahoo answers, for example. The term can also mean the page your browser opens when it starts. ℬ ℋ
