Resume: Please submit a resume that includes your employment history and academic record in reverse chronological order. Other information appropriate to a business resume is welcomed and encouraged. (no more than 1 page in length)

I recently opened my in-box to find an email from someone who would love to interview an admissions officer from your prestigious university to measure the impact of the admissions essay on today s college applicant. The email included a bunch of questions.

After sending the email I got curious about the URL in the recipient s email address, so I checked out the site. Turns out it s run by a team of professional journalists who will help you craft the perfect essay. for a price, of course. (Anywhere from a few bucks for basic proofreading to three figures for a full-blown rewrite - the irony being this: the more you pay, the less it will be your voice!)

With an acceptance rate of just 8% in 2015, MIT is one of the most selective colleges in the United States. This top engineering school sends out far more rejection letters than acceptance letters. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent accepted students, and you can see that most students who were accepted by MIT had 4.0 GPAs, SAT scores (RW+M) above 1300, and ACT composite scores above 28.

You ll notice that there are quite a few accepted students who had grades and/or test scores that were significantly below the norm. You certainly don t need a  4.0 and a 1600 on the SAT to get into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This is because the institute has holistic admissions , and the admissions folks are looking at the whole student, not just numerical data. GPAs can be scaled quite differently for international students, and students for whom English is a second language will obviously have added challenges when taking the ACT or SAT.

There s no such thing. Just get the maximum GPA you re capable of achieving. Schools like MIT are so unpredictable that even with a perfect GPA, its very possible to get rejected.

The MIT web site and their admissions office can give you better answers than any of us can. Don t be afraid to contact them with questions. They will consider your questions to be from interest not from stupidity. Ask your physics teacher and your school counselor for their suggestions, also. But MIT itself is the best source for in depth answers. Good luck.

Did you read their website for their requirements? Those are the minimums to apply, but those with the minimum to apply never actually get in. Actually, as about the most prestigious & competitive university in the world, MIT recruits the people they really want. If you have won international math or science competitions, published original research, etc, MIT pays attention to these things. If MIT wants you, they will come to you. They only want people of astounding intellect, amazing ability, exceptional achievements, etc. Are you one of the very most brilliant people in the world? What have you accomplished that would bring you some international renown? Are you the absolute top student in your country? That s pretty much what it takes to get into MIT. If they want you, they will come calling to get you.
