Bob Ewell.  Bob refers to Tom Robinson as "that black nigger yonder" on the witness stand, and calls Atticus a "nigger-lovin'''''''''''''''' bastard" after spitting in his face.

When To Kill a Mockingbird was published in 1960, it brought its young first-time author, Harper Lee, a startling amount of attention and notoriety. The novel replays three key years in the life of Scout Finch, the young daughter of an Alabama town''''''''s principled lawyer. The work was an instant sensation, becoming a bestseller and winning the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. Scout''''''''s narrative relates how she and her elder brother Jem learn about fighting.

I don't know about others, but it helped me a lot to take the quiz over To Kill a Mockingbird before I had a timed writing the next day. It really helped me review and keep straight the facts in the novel. This is the first time I tried taking a quiz, and I will definitely do it again with other novels in the future.

I actually already read the book in my English class about a month ago, and you have to admit, the begaining is kind of boring. And actually most of the book is boring. But the end was so good, that i just sat there and read for like, two hours. I really wanted to know why everyone calls it an important literature book.

i think the most important quote would be "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember it s a sin to kill a mockingbird" referring to the bluejays as bullys ie racist people, probably the Ewells. and the mockingbird as innocent people, victims of racist attack so Tom robinson. another quote would be when atticus tells scout she cant understand a person "until you climb into his skin and walk around in it" suggesting we shouldnt stereotype, prejudice and be racist. the theme of racism develops as scout learns more about this issue. her father is not racist and teaches her good moral values, but the society she lives in has racist views and so this is how, as the trial of Tom robinson (a black man) goes on, scouts views and knowledge also develop. it shows the innocence of a child and how important upbringing is for nurturing children to have good moral values.

The themes: don''''t judge people by appearance, have moral standards and stick to them no matter what, love thy neighbour as thyself, understanding is the key to happiness, it''''s a sin to kill a mockingbird

This is a good essay clearly showing understanding of the novel and the theme of racism throughout the novel.
There are some examples of thoughtful analysis and where further explored and supported by quotes this elevates the essay into the top band.
However there are also areas where statements are inconclusive and need more explanation.
As the essay is focusing on racism more social and historical context would have been useful

The jury in the courtroom convict Tom Robinson for rape although they know he is innocent. The jury won t take a black man s word over a white man s. Also, when Atticus defends Tom, Mrs. Dubose is not happy. It s been too long since I read that book..
