Back in April, when I set out to recruit three more Guides, I decided to start with the folks I thought would be best suited for the role and then move down the list as I accumulated rejections (of which I expected plenty). Instead, to my great fortune, the first three people I asked accepted. I’m a little unclear on how that happened, but I could not be more appreciative.
As Dancahbaby said, anything by Jodi Picoult. Of the ones she recommended, I ve read My Sister s Keeper (excellent!), Nineteen Minutes (excellent) and am currently on The Tenth Circle. The Pact is next on my list. Here s a quick rundown about the others I have read that she didn t list. Keeping Faith - About a young girl that may be seeing God. She recited passages of bible/religious material that she would never have contact with, develops stigmata, etc. Plain Truth - A seventeen Amish girl is accused of the murder of her newborn. Second Glance - Lots of storylines.probably my favorite of Picoult s. Can t really explain it: about ghost hunting, mostly. Change of Heart - Eleven years after being convicted of a double murder (child and police officer) and given the death sentence, Shea wishes to donate his heart to the sister of the slain little girl, who s in desperate need of a transplant. Also an element of God and belief. Handle with Care - A woman has a daughter with osteogenisis imperfecta (brittle bone disease). Years later, she decides to sue her OB/Gyn for wrongful birth, citing that the disease should have been caught earlier in her pregnancy. The OB/Gyn is her best friend.

Whether that’s on the beach, on a long-haul flight, or even if you just need an excuse to ignore everyone, here are the books for you.
What a Fish Knows by Jonathan Balcombe “Our fishy ancestors emerged from the watery depths around 400 million years ago, and this beautiful book connects us back to that time. Balcombe fishes out an eclectic array of studies that show we’re much more similar to fish than meets the eye. Showing that fish share predilections to music types, have dysfunctional family interactions and can be finicky gourmands, this books channels the goldfish in each and every one of us.” David Gruber (TED Talk: Glow-in-the-dark sharks and other stunning sea creatures )
