The subject you choose should not necessarily be one that you are familiar with or one that you are in full agreement with. For example, in college you may be asked to write a paper from the opposing point of view. Researching a different point of view is how students broaden their perspectives.

Looking for a topic you can really sink your teeth into? The best topic is one that you truly care about, and one that you re prepared to research. You ll have to back up your claim (whichever side you choose) with lots of evidence and support.

First off, I don’t like writing essays.
Second, this is due on Thursday at 11:59 pm (EST)
Third, it has to be 3-4 pages, not including a bibliography
Fourth, I need some unique topic ideas, and if anybody has written one, some advice, since I’m not used to these at all.

Rogerian essays are meant to help opposing sides come to conclusions they can both agree on. The style is understanding, considerate and moves from common ground to a reasonable compromise.

I think this is a great topic if you can craft your essay to show how you were able to overcome any cultural differences or adversity to be the person you are today. College admissions officers are looking for students who stand out, and you have a topic here that would do just that!

ugh yeah i remember that same problem. just bullshit it. they dont know you. lie. if youre irish, say your family has lots of irish traditions and you can bring that to the table. if your jewish, talk about being jewish and traditions and stuff with that. exaggerate a lot. whoever is reading that essay wont ever really meet you in person. EDIT: oh. just got an idea. say since youre not from a very culturally diverse place, you see yourself as a blank slate, ready to soak up different cultures and ideas like a sponge.
