    2. Problem or Question :  the intellectual context in which your thesis matters. In academic essays, the problem usually arises from a current misunderstanding of an important issue. The author of an essay promises to clarify something that would otherwise remain obscured or mistaken. Establishing the problem or question is the primary role of an essay’s first few paragraphs. If it doesn’t promise to illuminate, deepen, or solve a problem, an essay risks irrelevance.

Even at first, when the whole research group sat there doing rote calculations and others felt like they were staring down the barrel of defeated purpose, I remained enthusiastic. Time and time again I reminded myself of that famous phrase "great effort leads to great rewards," and sure enough, soon my aspirations began to be met. This shift in attitude also coincided with a shift in location: from the computer desk to the laser lab. It was finally time to get my hands dirty.

Now things began to get really interesting. During the experimentation phase of the project, I spent the majority of my waking hours in the lab – and I enjoyed every minute of it. From debriefing with my coordinator in the morning to checking and rechecking results well into the afternoon, I was on cloud nine all day, every day. I even loved the electric feeling of anxiety as I waited for the results. Most of all, though, I loved the pursuit of science itself. Before I knew it, I was well into the seventh week and had completed my first long-term research experiment.

good question! i ask your self the comparable with my own young ones; the oldest 2 are 11 a million/2, and 10. My son is extra timid, and he s the oldest. For starters, i ve got surely started having them do extra chores, so as that they are going to have not have been given any situation doing dishes---the two via hand and with a dishwasher---laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, and that i m beginning as much as practice them the thank you to cook dinner. it would desire to look stupid, yet i develop into shocked to realize in basic terms how few mothers and dads certainly have their young ones try this, and then they get to college, not understanding the thank you to do laundry! i might surely start up getting her to income self belief, now, as i don t think of it is going to magically look. I used to think of that my son might in basic terms awaken and be attentive to the thank you to do specific issues, yet in many cases, they might desire to verify, and inspired. Is she into activities, or some thing else that she excels at? Being around all diverse varieties of people could be a competent element, so she s not bowled over, later in existence. :) good success!

Have you ever tried counting how much time writing a single paper takes? Ever added up the time spent on writing essays and other assignments within a term? Within a year? A few years?

You can’t evaluate the full damage until you’ve seen the bigger picture. Research shows that an average student can spend up to 450 hours a term working on writing assignments. Can you imagine that? 450 hours! You could write a book in that time or do lots of other useful things. But instead, you are working on another essay that no one will appreciate (pessimistic but true).

There are hundreds of possible topics that you can be asked to write an essay on. Given below are some of the more common ones.

List all your activities for the past four years. Include school activities; awards, honors, and offices held; community services; jobs; and travel. Record major travel experiences. Note your strongest impressions and how they affected you. If you loved the Grand Canyon, for example, write down three specific reasons why, aside from the grandeur and beauty that everyone loves. Describe an accomplishment that you had to struggle to achieve. Include what it was, how you tackled it, and how it changed you.

In college admissions essays, wordiness is by far the most common stylistic error. In most cases, students could cut one-third of an essay, lose no meaningful content, and make the piece much more engaging and effective.

Wordiness comes in many forms with many different names -- deadwood, repetition, redundancy, BS, filler, fluff -- but whatever the type, those extraneous words have no place in a winning college admissions essay.

A pattern for a dress defines what the dress will look like when it is finished. In making a dress, we lay a pattern on our chosen material and cut away all the material that is outside the pattern. When we have finished, the material is not just in the shape of a dress, it is in the shape of our chosen pattern for a dress. In giving an example of an automobile race, I may say that all the cars are lined up facing the same direction, and they travel around an oval track as fast as they can, each driver trying to remain ahead of the others. This definition gives you an example of how an automobile race, as I define it, might take place. Patterns and examples tell us what things should look like and how they should work. Remember, a paradigm is a pattern, or an example. The examples of the dress and the automobile race might give you the impression that paradigms are already established, and that we just select one that fits what we are involved in. But paradigms are self created and totally personal. What type of dress came into your mind when the example was given? Did you think of a long flowered dress taken in at the waist, or a short skirt? What kind of cars were in your automobile race? Were they 500 types, or formula ones? Do you have any idea what I was thinking when I gave the examples? Each of us has established a paradigm based on our past experience and knowledge. Although we may agree on the basic outline of a paradigm, every one of us is unique, and our individual paradigms reflect it. Structural Functional: and departure. 1. Overview. Many aspects of the functionalist approach to sociology are similar to those of other sociological approaches, but with a particular emphasis on function, interdependence, consensus, equilibrium, and evolutionary change. Some of these aspects are: a. Macro. The focus is macro-sociological, with institutions and structures existing in the society as a whole. This is the origin of the structure part of the structural functional approach. b. Function. The different parts of each society contribute positively to the operation or functioning of the system as a whole. This is the functional part of the structural functional approach. c. Interdependence and Equilibrium. Functionalism attempts to explain the relationship of different parts of the system to each other, and to the whole. These parts are usually work together in an orderly manner, without great conflict. The different parts are usually in equilibrium, or moving toward equilibrium, with consensus rather than conflict governing the inter-relationships of the various parts. d. Evolutionary Change. While equilibrium, consensus, and static rather than dynamic analysis is most common, there is some discussion of change. Change tends to be orderly and evolutionary, rather than revolutionary or with dramatic structural breaks. Conflicts or external factors stimulate adjustment of the parts to move toward a new equilibrium. As change occurs, the various parts of societies become more differentiated, with these parts adapting to new needs and problems. Societies become more complex, with new institutions and subsystems developing that perform the new functions required to make the society operate smoothly. Note the similiarity to Durkheim’s view of how the division of labour develops. 2. Function. Each society has certain needs in that there are a number of activities that must be carried out for social life to survive and develop. Goods and services must be produced and distributed in order for people to survive, there must be some administration of justice, a political system must exist, and some family structure must operate so as to provide a means to reproduce the population and maintain social life on a daily basis. In the structural functional model, individuals carry out each of these tasks in various institutions and roles that are consistent with the structures and norms of the society. One example of functionalism is inequality. Functionalists generally argue that a certain degree of inequality is functional for the society as a whole, and the society could not operate without a certain degree of inequality. Rewards in the form of income, status, prestige, or power must be provided in order to induce people to carry out the work required of them and get them to prepare for and perform in roles required by society. Recall that Durkheim argued that social inequalities should represent natural inequalities, and if this occurs, the division of labour performs well. Some types of Marxism also have a strong strain of functionalism to them – for example, a Marxist may claim that the function of the working class is to produce surplus value, or the state functions in the interests of the bourgeoisie. One question raised in a functional approach is to determine what is functional and what is not, and for whom each of these activities and institutions are functional. If there is no meth
