Specifically, you do NOT need to know exactly what you want. You’d be surprised by how many clients come to me for life coaching when they don’t know what they want from life they just know that whatever they have at the moment is not it.

There’s a lot of clear structure underneath the surface, and if you follow the plan step-by-step as outlined, you will blast through any obstacles in your way. You will find a clear vision of what you want from life, as well as a specific action plan on how to get there. Say “goodbye”, procrastination! Say “hello”, fulfilling life full of growth and opportunities!

When talking to people about personal development, I come across tons of misconceptions. So let me clear up a major one right away.

Failure and setback stories are among the hardest admissions essays to write. My clients often struggle to find the right stories that showcase their ability to survive and thrive in the face of obstacles and frustration. They also wonder how much responsibility to take for what happened, and how to prove that they have learned their lessons. Here are the tips I use to help them to tell successful stories.

INSEAD: Describe the achievement of which you are most proud and explain why. In addition, describe a situation where you failed. How did these experiences impact your relationships with others? Comment on what you learned. (400 words max.)

All I had actually said was that, just as I had identified with a character who’s dismissively treated in On the Road , so I’d identified with Lolita. I read many Nabokov novels back in the day, but a novel centered around the serial rape of a kidnapped child, back when I was near that child’s age was a little reminder how hostile the world, or rather the men in it, could be. Which is not a pleasure.

The omnipresence of men raping female children as a literary subject, from Tess of the d’Urbervilles to Less Than Zero , along with real-life accounts like that of Jaycee Dugard (kidnapped at 11 in 1991 and used as a sex slave for 18 years by a Bay Area man), can have the cumulative effect of reminding women that we spend a lot of our lives quietly, strategically trying not to get raped, which takes a huge toll on our lives and affects our sense of self. Sometimes art reminds us of life.

In general, a strong career plan is one that brings the candidate to a very successful future, and one that is very likely to happen. This translates to 9 foundations for a strong career plan:

Descriptions of the candidate’s past/resume/background which are not clearly connected to the career goals unless the essay question specifically asks for it.

I recently opened my in-box to find an email from someone who would love to interview an admissions officer from your prestigious university to measure the impact of the admissions essay on today s college applicant. The email included a bunch of questions.

After sending the email I got curious about the URL in the recipient s email address, so I checked out the site. Turns out it s run by a team of professional journalists who will help you craft the perfect essay. for a price, of course. (Anywhere from a few bucks for basic proofreading to three figures for a full-blown rewrite - the irony being this: the more you pay, the less it will be your voice!)

EDIT: This is the most controversial post I have ever written in ten years of blogging. I wrote it because I was very angry at a specific incident. I stand by a lot of it, but if somebody links you here saying “HERE’S THE SORT OF GUY THIS SCOTT ALEXANDER PERSON IS, READ THIS SO YOU KNOW WHAT HIS BLOG IS REALLY ABOUT”, please read any other post instead. Trigger warning: social justice, condemnation of some feminism, tangential reference to eating disorder. Note that although our names are very similar, I am NOT the same person as Scott Aaronson and he did NOT write this article. Not meant as a criticism of feminism, so much as of a certain way of operationalizing feminism.

I just thought I d add on to what s already been said: Personality/Mood: It fluctuates. He s described as being alternately one way or the other. On a case, he s known for his seemingly infinite supply of energy; inversely, when he is unemployed, Watson describes Holmes apparent depression and lethargy. He has a witty, dry, rather dead-pan sense of humor which is often lost on those present with him (and also, unfortunately, on many readers.) He is sociable enough, it seems to me, despite the fact that many readers come off believing that Holmes is clearly in need of a social disorder diagnosis. This is probably due to the fact that he s often portrayed as being very eccentric- or, as Watson calls it, "Bohemian," but the truth of the matter is, Holmes isn t one to bull sh*t. That s it. He s not going to put up with you just because you re rich, or you re this person s cousin twice removed. On the other hand, if you ve won his favor, you should count yourself among the very lucky. Holmes has an incredible capacity for compassion, as well as for loyalty and friendship. Lastly, I d like to add that although Holmes brooding, somewhat angst-y side is the one most readers tend to come away with, I don t believe that s the side Watson meant to portray most frequently or most memorably at all. The number of times that the phrase "Holmes laughed/smilked/chuckled/etc." appears in the canon is well into the hundreds. Skills: Sociability: Despite a common misconception, Holmes is very adept at social interaction. With minimal effort, we see him converse easily with children (perhaps the most extraordinary feat, as children read and respond negatively to insincerity faster than you can say "Reichenbach Falls,") mothers, housewives, servants, tutors, nobles, priests, and even kings. He knows how people think, he knows what interests them, and he knows the best manner in which to draw them out in conversation. Combat: Single stick fighter, baritsu (ACD was famously sloppy with researching certain aspects of his stories. Take a look into bartitsu, if you re interested in the actual art of combat,) bare knuckle boxer, fencing. the list goes on and on. The man is practically a machine. One of my favorite moments in canon comes from the Sign of Four; Holmes meets up with this massive guy named McMurdo, who actually remembers Holmes in turn, for giving him a good bout in the boxing ring. Deduction: The bit everyone knows about! Habits/Other: Holmes is a talented violinist, and has sensational knowledge concerning many other hobbies and areas of discussion. Also, he s known to dabble in the use of cocaine as a stimulant of the mind, when unemployed for large stretches of time. I d like to make special note, though: He is in no way an ADDICT to cocaine. He s addicted to the mental activity, which comes just as easily, and more potently in the form of a case than in a dose of drugs. It is also his habit to smoke tobacco from a pipe- he has different pipes for when he is in different moods, Watson tells us, and smokes shag which he usually keeps in a Persian slipper. He s an especially prodigious smoker when he is on a difficult case. I think it was in the Man with the Twisted Lip that Holmes tells Watson he is going to sit up and smoke, as it was quite a three pipe problem. Watson falls asleep to Holmes smoking atop a cushion, a large pile of shag near by, and when he wakes, Holmes is still smoking, the room is filled with blue tobacco smoke, and the nearby pile is nowhere to be found. Inversely, Holmes eats very little- if at all- during his cases. He claims that it slows him down. As far as personality and habits, I think that covers most of the basics! Hope that helps.

Early theories of trust described it as a unidimensional phenomenon that simply increased or decreased in magnitude and strength within a relationship.

O Brien is a colleague of Winstons, working in the Party with him. Winston is drawn to O Brien after thinking he sees him in a dream of his. Also, O Brien is very smart and Winston thinks he has a chance of being like him: alone in that dark dystopia. For the last question, I d say again: he probably trusted O Brien because he didn t have a person to relate or speak to, and so he simply risked his life by trusting this man! Hope I helped!

concentration on particular issues in the poems--on the point of language (imagery, figures of speech, shape of the poem, etc) and use info to construct a *particular argument* related to the assessment you re making. that s the foremost- having a controversy and helping it with info from the textual content. you opt to do a good, close analyzing of the poems and paintings out from there. while you re comparing 2 poems, you re able to check out how the poets address the comparable topic in yet in a diverse way (via employing diverse poetic approaches or diverse pictures/concepts), or how they use the comparable type (say, a sonnet) to end something totally diverse. desire that facilitates!
