Your paragraphs look pretty good but no there shouldn t be a line between exercising our rights and insulting others. It s called common sense, but besides that, you d put all stand up comedians out of work. Your parents taught you a valuable lesson there too. However if you always hold your tongue for fear of insulting someone you might as well never talk. Discussing things should never be out of the question, while inflaming people by your arguments just for the sake of inflaming them needs to be tempered or limited to talk shows on the radio.

This sounds like an interesting essay to attempt.  Considering that the main character, Pi Patel, has an interesting belief system combining the world's three main religions, how about focusing your thesis statement on those three?  That way, your five-paragraph essay will have a perfect format of introduction, body paragraph one, body paragraph two, body paragraph three, and conclusion.  For example, your thesis could read something like this:  "Pi tries to find the meaning of life by combining the world's three major religions:  Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity."

This is one of the most interesting questions I ve seen here. The answers are also interesting, accurate, and even surprising. It s been my small observation that many men still think they have the better deal and "women s work" is boring. One thing that surprised me in reading the answers is how many women said positive things about the work they do and how satisfying it can be. I ve worked outside the home in high tech industries that housework can t hold a candle to as far as complexity, and interesting subject matter and I like the stimulating environment. I would go bonkers trying to raise kids. I would also go bonkers with fear if I had to fight in a war. I agree that roles are changing, but there is still a lot of social pressure for people to look or act certain ways. For example, women can wear just about anything, but a man could lose his job, family, even his life, if he wore women s clothes in public. I think I ll ask a question about this sometime. I also see how men can benefit financially from their education and work. Many women still try to marry someone who can support them. Even so, if they don t benefit enough financially from the marriage, and outlive their spouse, then they may have little money, or education to rely on when they get older. She may not have had good paying jobs long enough to get social security so she may face poverty. It s a tough question to answer, but a good answer can help many people. Perhaps the best way to get by is to not worry about things you can t change and learn to get along as well as you can with what you have available (i.e. talents, knowledge, possessions, whatever.)

Sharmeel Bhatti Ms. Ciufo ENG-3U1 Wednesday, April, 28, 2010 Life of Pi : Correlation between Science and Religion One of the most important dichotomies that exist amongst today is Science versus Religion. A dichotomy that started in the renaissance era, a period when people started questioning.

Hook sentence: Reason or Belief. A choice people have to choose and whatever the decision, must believe is, the right one. In the case of ‘ Life of Pi ’, reason and belief both play an important role in Pi’s struggle to survive but, reason outdoes/ over ruled belief on numerous occasions. . .

I run into this problem on almost every essay I write. If you know what you want to write about, try writing an outline first. It can help you really get everything planned out so that when you are writing, your thoughts don t get all jumbled. Secondly, the basic introductory paragraph goes like this: 1. Hook [This is where you get your reader s attention. Try using an experiance from your life, or an example of how experiances can change people. Don t start off with a question. Just make sure that this your hook really grabs the reader and draws them in. If you don t get their attention, they won t want to read your essay.] 2. Bridge [This is the bit of your introductory paragraph that carries the reader from your hook to your thesis. Try connecting your hook to your thesis. You don t want to just grab the reader s attention and then throw your thesis at them - it s blunt, choppy, etc. A good bridge will really polish your paragraph.] 3. Thesis [Your thesis is really the most important part of your paper. This is where you state the idea of your paper. For example: In the short story "The Boy Who Drew Cats", (insert experiance) changed the Boy by (insert how the experiance changed him). You really want to keep your thesis to one sentence, and it will be the last sentence in your introductory paragraph so the reader will go right into the first body paragraph with it fresh in their mind. I always find that when I m writing a paper, it will help me to write my outline, write my body paragraphs, write my conclusion paragraphs, and then write my introductory paragraphs. Of course, this is just me, I don t know if it ll work that way for you. Good luck with your paper, I hope I helped. :)
