For two and a half years, Americans fought Against the British, Canadian colonists, and native nations.  In the years to come, the War of 1812 would be celebrated in some places and essentially forgotten in others.  But it is a war worth remembering—a struggle that threatened the existence of Canada, then divided the United States so deeply that the nation almost broke apart.  Some of its battles and heroes became legendary, yet its blunders and cowards were just as prominent.  The film shows how the glories of war became enshrined in history – how failures are quickly forgotten – how inconvenient truths are ignored forever.

The War of 1812 is a production of WNED-TV, Buffalo/Toronto and Florentine Films/Hott Productions Inc. , in association with WETA Washington, D.C. , with funding provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities ,The Wilson Foundation, Warren and Barbara Goldring, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting , The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations , Philip B. Lind and The Annenberg Foundation with additional support from The Baird Foundation, Niagara Falls Bridge Commission and The Jackman Foundation.

Revolutionary- 1775-1783 Colonial Americans and the British The Colonials wanted independence from Great Britain. The Colonials won. _____________________________________________________________ War of 1812- I forget when it started- ended 1815 The (now independent) United States of America and Great Britain Fought because the British were being annoying. Again. The U.S. won ____________________________________________________________________ Mexican American war- 1846-1848 The U.S., and Mexico Texas was getting all up in Mexico s grills and Mexico was like "Oh no you Di nt!" than Texas was all like "help me U.S., HELP ME!" and the U.S. was like "yo Mexico, chill dog". The U.S. won. Remember the alamo. _________________________________________________________________________________ Civil War The Union and The Confederacy The U.S. was split between free states and slave states, and was acquiring more and more territory. Each time a new State was being added to the union, there would be a struggle between the south and the north as to whether or not it would be a free state or a slave state. When President Lincoln won the election, the south had the misconceived notion that he wanted equality between whites and blacks, and thought that since the new states were becoming free states, it meant that their opinion no longer mattered in the democracy, so they broke from the Union and started the Confederacy. The union won. The southern slaves became free, and later the Northern slaves. If you add up all of those killed in all of the other U.S. wars, it is less than how many were killed during the Civil war. It was so deadly because medical science couldn t keep up with weapon advancement at the time (primarily minie ball bullets). Lincoln was assassinated 5 days after the war ended. _________________________________________________________________________________ WW1 1914-1918 The Allies and the Central Powers. I forget all of the details but the "Balkans powder keg" was a sticky political situation in which a bunch of countries were pissed off at each other. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand (I think that s his name) "ignited" the powder keg and sucked all of the worlds great powers into the fighting. All in all, I just blame Germany. The allies won. Austria-Hungary seized to exist, Germany was embarrassed and in a load of debt since they owed all of the winners money for repairs and what not. Trench Warfare, chemical weapons, machine guns, tanks, airplanes, no mans land, all was introduced to war in ww1. League of nations was formed, didn t help much. ________________________________________________________________________________ WW2 1939-1945 Fought between the Allies and the Axis. Why? Hitler that s why. Germany was transformed into a militarized state, they became very wealthy despite their debt from ww1, and wanted revenge for their embarrassment from the last time they tried to kill everyone. Hitler wanted to get rid of all the Jews, and create a country for Aryans or something weird like that. Allies won. Atom bombs, Germany became a good guy, paratroopers etc. United Nations was formed. _________________________________________________________________________________ Korean war 1950-1953 North Korea, South Korea, U.S., U.N., U.K., China, Russia I don t really know much about the war. It was a Tie. North Korea became a super villain. _________________________________________________________________________ I ve gotten bored so I ll leave you with that
