If you are going to be living in downtown Chicago, by the lake, it is going to be very windy. It can be very hot and humid in the summer. It will rain. A thunder/lighting storm over the lake is a great show. The Forth of July is a huge summer time celebration. Chicago has a lot of summer festivals. If you are with a host family, you will not be alone. I would assume they will take you around. Public transportation is very good in Chicago. Downtown area is pretty safe- don t be there at night alone. But you could go to the museums by yourself or Lincoln Park zoo. The museums here are excellent. As well as the Shedd aquarium and Adler Planetarium. Go to the top of the Willis Tower. You will make friends with the other students as well.
