The term essay comes from the French for "trial" or "attempt." French author  Michel de Montaigne coined the term when he assigned the title Essais to his first publication in 1580. In Montaigne: A Biography (1984), Donald Frame notes that Montaigne "often used the verb essayer (in modern French, normally to try ) in ways close to his project, related to experience, with the sense of trying out or testing."

Respect is showing common courtesy to people (especially your elders), being kind and thoughtful around them. It shows respect when you allow someone to speak without interrupting them, don t belch loudly or pass gas around them (or apolgize quietly if it sneaks out), to hold a door open for other less able-bodied than you, etc. But respect is especially necessary when you are disagreeing with the other person. I might disagree vehemently with you on the issue of politics, for example. But a respectful person would never resort to shouting or calling others names to get their point across.

There are two forms of respect; one is mutual between any two given beings, another looking at or treating another being with higher regards. Mutual - Two beings, for example people, acknowledge and accept each others actions and behaviors. Singular - Giving a being higher regards or value; or honoring one in consideration to oneself.
