Salary depends on the part of the country. Techs can make bank, esp. if they specialize in sonograms, arteriograms, etc. Call a local hospital's xray or u.s. dept and talk to a tech. Once you get a year's experience you can go for "traveler", where you work for an agency that pays your rent and sends you on 3 month assignments. Kids need sonos too. If you want to stay in one place, salary is fairly predicatable. As an Operating room tech I made anywhere from $16 to $37 an hour, plus housing. Rad techs seemed to fare a little better by a few $ an hour. Needs for techs FLUCTUATE though, but needs for RNs is always high. Think about it, and about what city/state you want to live in.

Volunteer Placements are assigned based on volunteer interests, skills, availability and hospital needs. Volunteering is a great way to explore a hospital setting.

Starting pay in the midwest for a NEW RN is around $23-26 an hour. Most RN s with several years experience make upwards of $35+ an hour. Those that "contract" to working "as needed" hours or something like a "weekends only" shift make upwards of $40+ an hour.

If your an adult, i dont know how helpful this will be, i am 15 and im asuming that you are somewhere around my age. i would recomend volunteering to see what its like to be a nurse becuase i have a friend who i have known since first grade who volunteers at a hospital once a week. she has to wear a white shirt, keep her hair in a ponytail, and wear kahki pants. but she loves volunteering there! she takes familys who are visiting a loved one to that person s room, she takes people flowers if flowers are dropped off, she delivers messages to people who work there and to people staying in the hospital, she helps new mothers take stuff to their car, she wheels people in wheelchairs places, she has a walkie talkie and sometimes the person in charge will ask her to bring stuff up to a room. she really llikes volunteering there and she chose to do that because she also wants to be a nurse. i have another friend that ive known for 2 years now and she is trying to start volunteering at a hospital too. right now she is just filling out the paper work and submitting it, but she would be doing the same stuff as my first friend. the paper work asks for some personal information, stuff about your personalilty, they also ask for recomendations from your teachers.

Type what kind of volunteering you want to do, on the “keyword” search bar, for example, senior, art, sport, immigrant, etc. Then click “search”. Keep it broad and make sure the word is in singular form, e.g. senior not seniors and art instead of music or guitar, this would yield more results. You will find a list of organizations that fits your search criteria. Would you like to know where these organizations are? Click “View as Map” and the list will turn into a map with red arrows indicating where these organizations are.

Preference for a place close to your home? Type your postal code on “postal code” column. Then click “search". It will zoom in the map of the area where the postal code is. Click “View as Lists” to see these places in a list format….. if you have a passion, we have a way for you to volunteer.
