Prince Hamlet has been summoned home to Denmark to attend his father's funeral. One night, a Ghost reveals itself to Hamlet, claiming to be the ghost of Hamlet's father, the former king. The Ghost claims that the old king was murdered by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, who has since married Hamlet's mother and assumed the throne.

Prince Hamlet of Denmark is urged by his father’s Ghost to avenge his murder at the hands of the dead king’s brother, now King Claudius; to make matters worse, Claudius has married the widow, Hamlet’s mother, Queen Gertrude. Denmark is under threat of invasion from young Fortinbras, who seeks to regain lands lost to Hamlet’s father by Fortinbras’s father. Claudius sends word to the King of Norway (Fortinbras’s uncle) to curb Fortinbras’s aggression. In the meantime, Hamlet feigns madness with his family and friends, including his beloved, Ophelia, sister to Laertes and daughter to Polonius. Both Polonius and Laertes warn Ophelia against Hamlet’s amorous advances. Polonius believes Hamlet’s “madness” to be love sickness. Laertes is given permission to return to his studies in Paris.

"Hamlet" is one of William Shakespeare''''''''''''''''s most famous plays. Although the play was written over four centuries ago, the issues that it deals with are truly universal.

The play centres on the dilemmas of Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark who is told by the ghost of his father that his uncle, Claudius, murdered the king in order to seize the throne and the Queen (Hamlet''''''''''''''''s mother). Much of the play is based around Hamlet deciding whether revenge and murder are ever moral, although it also touches upon a number of other key moral questions. Although the play is far more concerned with thoughts than actions, Hamlet''''''''''''''''s decisions have important consequences, and the play culminates in a famous bloody finale.

This type of essay writing is an analysis of a certain reading and basically it is a summary of the point of view presented in this reading and an evaluation of this work. The process of writing a critical essay can become a challenge for any student in case of inappropriate usage of criticism in the paper. Contemporary essay writing requires a deep understanding of the essence of criticism. Criticism does not have the aim of offending or attacking the author and his work but an objective analysis of the text.

A quality critical thinking essay is always written in a serious tone without touching the feelings and emotions of the writer and therefore respecting them. Every statement needs to be supported by quotations. Any critical essay example can either agree or disagree with the work analyzed.

The play begins with a “Dumb Show,” which is a pantomime of the drama to come. On stage, the basic form of the alleged murder is repeated: a king and queen are shown happily married; the king takes a nap; a poisoner enters and pours something in the king’s ear, killing him; the poisoner than takes possession of the queen. Ophelia seems confused by this plot but Hamlet tells her to wait for the speaker of the prologue to explain.

As Claudius is vainly attempting to pray, Hamlet comes up behind him. He reflects that he now has an opportunity to kill his uncle and revenge his father, but pauses, considering that because Claudius is in the act of prayer he would likely go straight to heaven if killed. Hamlet resolves to kill Claudius later, when he is in the middle of some sinful act. He continues on to his mother’s chamber.
