The history of hypnosis is full of contradictions. On the one hand, a history of hypnosis is a bit like a history of breathing. Like breathing, hypnosis is an inherent and universal trait, shared and experienced by all human beings since the dawn of time. On the other hand, it’s only in the last few decades that we’ve come to realise that! Hypnosis itself hasn’t changed for millennia, but our understanding of it and our ability to control it has changed quite profoundly. The history of hypnosis, then, is really the history of this change in perception.

Mesmer was also the first to develop a consistent method for hypnosis, which was passed on to and developed by his followers. It was still a very ritualistic practice. Mesmer himself, for instance, liked to perform mass inductions by having his patients linked together by a rope, along which his “animal magnetism” could pass. He was also fond of dressing up in a cloak and playing ethereal music on the glass harmonica whilst this was happening. The popular image of the hypnotist as a charismatic and mystical figure can be firmly dated to this time.

Pros: There are many types of birth control pills such as hormone, barrier, etc. Hormones may make her period regular, decrease acne and prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Having her being charge of her own body and preventing an unwanted pregnancy is a wonderful thing. Cons: Sometimes a girl doesn t tolerate birth control pills and gets moody or depressed and it takes awhile to find the right one. She may be less likely to use a condom when/if she becomes sexually active. Both pros and cons can be talked about. I think birth control is both a responsible and excellent idea. It does not increase the likelihood of her becoming sexually active. Surveys and studies prove that. What it DOES do, is put her in charge of her own body. I don t see a down side to that. My sister had a baby at 17 and my friend had one at 15. Neither of them fulfilled their dreams or had very good lives. I think the risk of not putting a girl on birth control of some type far, far outweights the benefits. I am glad you are looking out for your daughter.

Everybody is different and whether or not hormonal birth control is right for you is really a trial and error sort of thing. I ended up with awful migraines my whole placebo week (or ring free week) and randomly throughout the month and I had no sex drive whatsoever so I decided hormonal birth control was not right for me (I now have a copper IUD which I am very happy with). Talk to your doctor about your options!
