One in three women around the world experience violence in their lifetime, often in the hands of someone they know, love and trust. Of all women who were victims of homicide globally in 2012, almost half were killed by intimate partners or family members.

Violence against women and girls, a gross human rights violation, devastates lives, causes untold pain, suffering and illness. It also incurs high economic costs. A recent study estimated that the cost of intimate-partner accounted for 5.2 per cent of the global economy [ 1 ].

In 2013, assault by firearm was the leading cause of death due to interpersonal violence, with 180,000 such deaths estimated to have occurred. The same year, assault by sharp object resulted in roughly 114,000 deaths, with a remaining 110,000 deaths from personal violence being attributed to other causes. [3]

Violence in many forms is preventable. There is a strong relationship between levels of violence and modifiable factors such as concentrated poverty , income and gender inequality, the harmful use of alcohol, and the absence of safe, stable, and nurturing relationships between children and parents. Strategies addressing the underlying causes of violence can be effective in preventing violence. [7]

First, you probably know that, although Antigone happens last, it was written first. Sophocles may possibly have changed his concept of certain recurring characters as he wrote those three plays. Or maybe he saw the ways those characters acted in the different plays as natural in the different circumstances. So could you write about the way Creon changes--or seems to change? In Oedipus Rex, he s a reasonable, rather low-keyed man who doesn t want the responsibility of kingship but has it dropped on him at the end anyway. In Oedipus at Colonnos, he s a tyrant who wants to compel Oedipus to return to Thebes at any cost and tries to coerce him by taking away his caregivers. In Antigone, he s a rather weak man trying to be strong and, I think, to do the right thing and afraid to admit and undo his mistake for fear of appearing weak and indecisive. Was Sophocles just characterizing Creon differently in each play to meet the needs of the plot, or could his various behaviors in the three all be manifestations of the same basic person? To write about Antigone and/or Ismene, you ll need to quote what Oedipus says about them at the end of O. R.--that he doesn t worry much about his sons, since as men they ll be able to take care of themselves, but he worries about what will become of his daughters. Then you can launch into the ways they re portrayed in the other two parts of the trilogy. Does either of them seem a bit inconsistent? Another possibility is Sophocles subtle use of humor in his tragedies. In O. R., the messenger from Corinth seems to be a thick-skinned but good-natured bumpkin, who goes on blurting out unwelcome truths until the Theban shepherd tells him to shut up. Although he s unwittingly uncovering the last pieces of a terrible picture, there s something a little comical in the way he keeps imperceptively jogging the shepherd s memory. Then in Antigone, the sentry is a rather comical figure, whom I ve always envisioned acting out his journey to the palace as he describes it, alternately dragging his feet and hurrying.. Then when Creon demands to know why he has come, he says something like "In the first place, I want to say that I didn t do it, I didn t see anyone do it, I don t know who did it, so there s no point in asking me." I imagine him gasping all that out in one breath, almost as all one word. And of course Creon demands, "Did WHAT?" Unfortunately, I m much less familiar with Oedipus at Colonnos than I am with the other two, but I trust that you ve read it much more recently than I have! So scrutinize it for anything at least slightly funny. One other possibility: Does the royal house of Thebes really NEED a curse on it to make its members act as they do? The men of the family, at least, seem to have a violent temper in their genes. After all, in one sense the tragedy was really set in motion when Laius struck at Oedipus with his carriage whip when Oedipus was in no mood to be crossed.

Women's rights in Saudi Arabia are limited in comparison to many of its neighbors. The World Economic Forum 's 2015 Global Gender Gap Report ranked Saudi Arabia 134th out of 145 countries for gender parity. [6] All women, regardless of age, are required to have a male guardian. Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world that prohibits women from driving. Saudi women constitute 13% of the country's native workforce as of 2015. [2] [3]

However, women's status has changed in recent decades. Women were previously forbidden from voting or being elected to political office, but in 2011 King Abdullah let women vote 2015 local elections , as well as be appointed to the Consultative Assembly. [7] More university graduates in Saudi Arabia are Saudi women than men, [8] and female literacy is estimated to be 91% (though lower than male literacy) far higher than just 40 years ago. The average age at first marriage among Saudi females in the kingdom is 25 years. [9] [10] [11]

First of all, it is a part of Islamic religion for a woman to cover her hair. And about the debate that she should cover her face or not you should research "Feqh" books for more information. This is the religious part of the "hejab" or the head cover. Saudi societies are different with the hejab issue. Some are more conservative than the others. I would say as a general answer for your question that the women issues are different in different Saudi societies. Some socities are so rigid with the women issues and others are wrongly open. But people are getting better with women. I can say that in some socities women are the happiest among all of the women in the world (seriously). For more aqurate info you should do surveys by your self in the middle of Saudi people. Dont beleive what the media say about us. Finaly, some quick answer for some of your question based on my society. A majoroty of women attend universities. They work mostly in teaching and medicine. Some of them work in IT and administration. But most of them retire early. Divorced women respected and becomming more accepted. The child custody is determind by the judge depending on the surcumstances. Yes a woman can get a divorce if she had a reason. Men are alload up to 4 wifes in Islam. Not a pleasent fact for women :). Most of men have one wife. sorry I didnt give any percentage since it is diffecult to guess. hope I helped and happy to give further info.
