One of the things about the death penalty that people don t realize is that it is a long long process after death has been imposed. The prosecution likes to play victim s family card and say that it will be better for the family of the victim, however, the truth is that, due to the appellate process, it is years and years before the defendant is actually executed. When someone is sentenced to death, in most states, there are 2 state appeals, and 1 federal appeal. The first state appeal is mandatory, but the second state and federal appeal are not mandatory. The state foots the bill. Capital murder cases are very very expensive and lengthy. But, in order to execute a person, you have to make sure that it s constitutional. There are many things that can make it unconstitutional, which is why you see reversals frequently. There are many cons for imposition of the death penalty.

It’s time to end this costly, failed system.
