An Essay on Criticism is one of the first major poems written by the English writer Alexander Pope (1688–1744). It is written in a type of rhyming verse called heroic couplets. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" is an oft-misquoted line of Alexander Pope. It is the source of the famous quote: "To err is human, to forgive divine". The poem first appeared in 1711. [1] It was written in 1709, and it is clear from Pope's correspondence [2] that many of the poem's ideas had existed in prose form since at least 1706. It is a verse essay written in the Horatian mode and is primarily concerned with how writers and critics behave in the new literary commerce of Pope's contemporary age. The poem covers a range of good criticism and advice, and represents many of the chief literary ideals of Pope's age.

Throughout the poem, Pope refers to ancient writers such as Virgil , Homer , Aristotle , Horace and Longinus. This is a testament to his belief that the "Imitation of the ancients" is the ultimate standard for taste. Pope also says, "True ease in writing comes from art, not chance, / As those move easiest who have learned to dance" (362–363), meaning poets are made, not born.

An essay is, generally, a piece of writing that gives the author''''''''''''''''s own argument — but the definition is vague, overlapping with those of an article , a pamphlet , and a short story. Essays have traditionally been sub-classified as formal and informal. Formal essays are characterized by "serious purpose, dignity, logical organization, length," whereas the informal essay is characterized by "the personal element (self-revelation, individual tastes and experiences, confidential manner), humor, graceful style, rambling structure, unconventionality or novelty of theme," etc. [1]

The concept of an "essay" has been extended to other mediums beyond writing. A film essay is a movie that often incorporates documentary filmmaking styles, and focuses more on the evolution of a theme or idea. A photographic essay covers a topic with a linked series of photographs that may have accompanying text or captions.

Who is afraid of the textual criticism? According to the Christian missionaries, Muslims are scared of textual criticism not the Christians. The aim of this page is to investigate as well as highlight the myriad of dishonest statements made by the Christian missionaries concerning the textual criticism of the Qur''''an and the Bible. And it will also be shown that who precisely is and should be scared of textual criticism. The Christian critic at says :

Many Muslims try to capitalize in their debates on the fact that there are variant readings of Biblical text in the many manuscripts we have of it. This is natural for handcopied texts and nothing else can be expected. Just try yourself to copy down by hand twenty pages of any book, then let a friend proofread it and see how many mistakes he finds.

Amazing Race is a great show that brings people together, or pulls them apart, when dealing with relationships with friends, your significant other and siblings. Even spending time together makes you learn more about your team mate even better. I can t really argu or criticize that show. As for American Idol, there s been some scandals with voting issues, or with not doing background checks on those contestants who make it past auditions, when it turns up that they have a criminal past, like the twins from last season. Don t forget about Corey too. My only argument and criticism is they should do thorough background checks, and ask them on it, or have it on a piece of paper for criminal history, like you would have for a job application.
