There are several film versions of the book none of which could or tried to capture the detail and nuance of the book. Most of the people who made these movies knew the book was better.

And let’s get one thing straight: We’re keeping this list pretty purebred as far as that whole vengeance goes. That means great movies that involve revenge, but aren’t necessarily revenge movies (like  Gladiator, The Godfather, or Batman Begins) were not considered.

These films are all about what happens when the police are powerless, when justice fails, and good men go bad. We’re talking high body counts, higher bullet counts, and the righteous fury of men pushed too far.
