Immanuel Kant was born April 22, 1724 in Königsberg, near the southeastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Today Königsberg has been renamed Kaliningrad and is part of Russia. But during Kant's lifetime Königsberg was the capital of East Prussia, and its dominant language was German. Though geographically remote from the rest of Prussia and other German cities, Königsberg was then a major commercial center, an important military port, and a relatively cosmopolitan university town. [ 1 ]

Kant was born into an artisan family of modest means. His father was a master harness maker, and his mother was the daughter of a harness maker, though she was better educated than most women of her social class. Kant's family was never destitute, but his father's trade was in decline during Kant's youth and his parents at times had to rely on extended family for financial support.

Hello: To be honest I do not know how 'successful' I can call the argument. As you have it phrased there must be something that gets the ball rolling so to speak.if the big bang is the beginning then what started the big bang? What is the first cause? This would seem to lead us (assuming we are not willing to abandon this line of thought) to the idea that there must be "an unmoved mover" that exists outside of the beginning. As for Hume and Kant.well to be honest we have access to a billion times more information than they did.they either pooped outdoors or it was carried away in a pot.in a way they should be cavemen compared to where we should be. It seems like this argument is based in."wow look how huge and incredible the universe is.there is totally no way this just happened!" Ergo.God exists. However I am not framiliar with this argument. I hope this helps Rev Phil

You don t need a thousand words to explain why Pluto is no longer considered a planet. In fact, you need only one sentence. That sentence, decided upon by the International Astronomical Union in 2006, is: "A celestial body that is (a) in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit." Pluto doesn t meet the third criterion, and therefore is not a planet. Stretching out that simple statement into a thousand words is going to make for one awful essay, let me tell you.

at least If you were going to argue down the name "god" to something as simple an original cause, then you could as easily say whatever simple physical piece of matter existed before the big bang was god itself, then you have combined creationism into big-bang, defeating whatever religious context the argument had because science would have absorbed it in a paradox of human language and perception. Just an addition, nothing to compete with hume, kant or plato.

The term “atheism” finds its etymology in the Greek combination of “a” and “theos”. What “atheos” means is, as with any term, subject to context (and perhaps personal interpretation). Note that if an atheist states, “I do not believe in God”, this is technically not a statement about God’s existence or lack thereof. Does atheos mean “no God”, “without God”, “lack God belief” or “God does not exist”?

In this section you will find arguments of many different kinds for the existence of God. And we make to you, the reader, an initial appeal. We realize that many people, both believers and nonbelievers, doubt that God''s existence can be demonstrated or even argued about. You may be one of them. You may in fact have a fairly settled view that it cannot be argued about. But no one can reasonably doubt that attention to these arguments has its place in any book on apologetics. For very many have believed that such arguments are possible, and that some of them actually work.

It is this sort of cramped and constricted horizon that the proofs presented in this chapter are trying to expand. They are attempts to confront us with the radical insufficiency of what is finite and limited, and to open minds to a level of being beyond it. If they succeed in this—and we can say from experience that some of the proofs do succeed with many people—they can be of very great value indeed.

Ontological arguments are arguments, for the conclusion that God exists, from premises which are supposed to derive from some source other than observation of the world e.g., from reason alone. In other words, ontological arguments are arguments from nothing but analytic, a priori and necessary premises to the conclusion that God exists.

In the early eighteenth century, Gottfried Leibniz attempted to fill what he took to be a shortcoming in Descartes' view. According to Leibniz, Descartes' arguments fail unless one first shows that the idea of a supremely perfect being is coherent, or that it is possible for there to be a supremely perfect being. Leibniz argued that, since perfections are unanalysable, it is impossible to demonstrate that perfections are incompatible and he concluded from this that all perfections can co-exist together in a single entity.
