Well firstly, writing a persuasive essay means you need to have an argument - the worst thing you can do is argue both sides, so choose one - are you for or against perfume? For example, you can say perfume is a benefit to many people who STINK because then you can actually go near them without throwing up OR you could say you cannot stand perfume because some people use so much you can smell them from across the room and its so strong it almost makes you gag. The first thing you shouold do is choose which side to take, then brainstorm 3 main ideas for you argument and 2 or 3 subtopics for each main idea. If possible, try to use real life stories, etc. to support your answer. EXAMPLE: Perfume is GOOD! Main idea 1: It makes people who smell bad smell good, making everybodys lives more enjoyable. Subtopic 1: They can spray themselves with perfume to make themselves smell good, people will want to be around them more and their lives will be much more enjoyable. Subtopic 2: You can carry it in you pocket so if somebody near you smells bad you can spray them, make them smell good and make your life much more enjoyable. Subtopic 3: You can spray yourself with it, boosting your self confidence and therefore making your life much more enjoyable. Obviously you want better ideas than this, but its just an example. Do that same thing 2 more times and you will have lots of ideas. It is better to come up with extra ideas then cut some out than to have just enough ideas. Once you have ideas there are some things you have to remember to really boost the quality of your essay: 1. Depending on the formality required, try to avoid contranctions (Write do not instead of don t) and avoid slang words. 2. Do not use I statements. Say I am arguing that perfume is dumb. I can say two things: I think perfume is dumb. The first thing they say is: "Well yes thats what you think, but I disagree." As soon as you bring your opinion into the matter, the reader wil bring their opinion into the matter. If you do not have the same opinion, they will not be interested in continueing reading. If you do have the same opinion, they have no reason to read you essay. Okay, I think perfume is dumb, and so does the guy who wrote this. THE END, move on.If they believe what you say they do not need to be persuaded. OR Perfume is dumb. The first thing they say is: "." You are simply saying perfume is dumb. It is just a random sentence as part of your essay and they will keep reading. Even if they disagree, saying something in that way, PERFUME IS DUMB. Leaves no room for argument, so they will not think of bringing their opinion into the matter. DO NOT use I, me, we, us, etc. in your essay. Avoid bringing all of your opinions into your work. Never forget this is a persuasive essay. Say things you may find too obvious to say. You may think perfume is great because it smells good. Well obviously thats the point of wearing it, so why mention it? But if somebody thinks perfume is dumb tey wont think "oh, they say perfume is good? okay, that makes sense because it smells nice". instead theyll think, "PERFUME IS DUMB" hope it helps :)

The purpose of a persuasive essay is to convince the reader to agree with your viewpoint or to accept your recommendation for a course of action. For instance, you might argue that the salaries of professional athletes are too high. Or you might recommend that vending machines be banned from your school cafeteria. A successful persuasive essay will use evidence to support your viewpoint, consider opposing views and present a strong conclusion.

Use evidence to support your viewpoint. Statistics, facts, quotations from experts and examples will help you to build a strong case for your argument. Appeal to the reader’s sense of logic by presenting specific and relevant evidence in a well-organized manner.

In other parts of the world, they do wear school uniforms, even in public schools.  In the United States, we know that school uniforms are normally limited to private schools.  The question remains: should our school children wear uniforms to school?

The reason I am asking this question is that in Bloomfield, kids in K-8 are going to be required to wear them come fall.  A post in Courant writes about this:
