Political economy is a term used for studying production and trade, and their relations with law, custom , and government, as well as with the distribution of national income and wealth. Political economy originated in moral philosophy. It was developed in the 18th century as the study of the economies of states, or polities , hence the term political economy.

A classic definition of the term was articulated in 1877 by Friedrich Engels : "Political economy, in the widest sense, is the science of the laws governing the production and exchange of the material means of subsistence in human society. Political economy is therefore essentially a historical science. It deals with material which is historical, that is, constantly changing." [1]

Marxian economics concerns itself variously with the analysis of crisis in capitalism , the role and distribution of the surplus product and surplus value in various types of economic systems , the nature and origin of economic value , the impact of class and class struggle on economic and political processes, and the process of economic evolution.

Marxian economics, particularly in academia, is distinguished from marxism as a political ideology as well as the normative aspects of Marxist thought, with the view that Marx''''''''''''''''s original approach to understanding economics and economic development is intellectually independent from Marx''''''''''''''''s own advocacy of revolutionary socialism. [2] [3] Marxian economists do not lean entirely upon the works of Marx and other widely known Marxists, but draw from a range of Marxist and non-Marxist sources. [4]

Jackson s view on political matters is pretty much the ideal soldier s position. He believed in following his legitimate orders, and he kept his thoughts out of doing his job. He wasn t interested in running the show or trying to make things fit his way, but on doing his duty.

Are you supposed to pick what one party stands for, or compare and constrast the two? Go for the economics route. It affects everything we do in this country and influences all the other things you listed. I would do a side-by-side comparison of the two. I would be very, very careful where you go to reference your resources. Mainstream media is heavily biased toward democrats and you will not get a fair analysis. The success of your paper will depend on whether you are able to not pick sides, and it will come through in the way you write your essay if you give any indication that you are leaning one way over another.
