I think you re a bit weird. They let you choose the fish (that means it was a nice restaurant) then they kill it, not beat it. And you technically stole two fish from them. And how were you brave? If you were brave then robbers are brave too. Because you stole something that wasn t yours. Yes, I think your essay is ridiculous. And it makes you sound like an idiot who doesn t understand that humans have to kill other animals to survive and be healthy. And it s natural selection. EDIT: You do have to eat animals. Or you take tablets that contain the proteins and vitamins that the animals provide us, but they will never be able to replace what you lose. I know, I m vegan and I have many issues concerning levels of minerals and vitamins in my blood due to my lack of fish and meat eating. I wish I could eat meat.

My brother, Anthony, killed himself on a cool Thursday afternoon in April, a few weeks before his medical school graduation. He was 26.

He was staying with our parents in the New York suburbs. On his laptop, he read the New York Times and flipped through our sister’s vacation photos. He corresponded with a mentor and asked potential landlords about on-street parking during his upcoming residency. On Wikipedia, he read about Baal Shem Tov, an 18th century Jewish mystic who our father says is our ancestor, and the pop-punk band Rancid, which rocked his adolescence. He searched for suicide notes and sites on famous last words and asked Google, “How many times does a human heart beat in a life?”

I brought her home a week to the day after the shelter vet scooped out her womb; in the meantime, I read everything I could about her breed: grooming tricks and training tips, common health concerns and average life expectancy. I’d thought ten to twelve years seemed impossibly long.

Tova and I became a “we”: We’re moving in the spring; we sleep late on Sundays; we favor cafés with outdoor patios. I’d never been a “we” with anyone else: There had been me and there had been him, and there had always been more him than me. Love meant indulgence. But all those times I made Tova sit for her supper, all those tussles in the dog park that I broke up, all those moments I pulled her to my heel and let the squirrels go by—that was love.

We say, don''t be embarrassed for having a good time in the car. It''s your own little sanctuary. It''s just you, the steering wheel, and the open road. Nothing makes a road trip better than a good playlist and we''ve compiled the ultimate road trip songs playlis for your next overland adventure. And we hope you put together your own list of road trip songs and share it with us too! We''re ThePlanetD on Spotify.

This road trip song by Canada’s Spirit of the West always makes me want to go to London, England and hang out in the pubs. I think about all the travels we have done and when we do come home, we need a rest. Travel is exhausting and when you add pub crawling to the mix, it is doubly exhausting. I love the opening:
“ You’ll have to excuse me I’m not at my best,
I’ve Been Gone for a Month, I’ve Been Drunk Since I left.
These so called vacations will soon be my death,
I’m so sick from the Drink, I need home for a rest …"

Even at first, when the whole research group sat there doing rote calculations and others felt like they were staring down the barrel of defeated purpose, I remained enthusiastic. Time and time again I reminded myself of that famous phrase "great effort leads to great rewards," and sure enough, soon my aspirations began to be met. This shift in attitude also coincided with a shift in location: from the computer desk to the laser lab. It was finally time to get my hands dirty.

Now things began to get really interesting. During the experimentation phase of the project, I spent the majority of my waking hours in the lab – and I enjoyed every minute of it. From debriefing with my coordinator in the morning to checking and rechecking results well into the afternoon, I was on cloud nine all day, every day. I even loved the electric feeling of anxiety as I waited for the results. Most of all, though, I loved the pursuit of science itself. Before I knew it, I was well into the seventh week and had completed my first long-term research experiment.

Without knowing how old you are, I would say you should write more, give more detail as to why you re best choice. Give some life examples, or show how you re interested in Japan. In other words, don t just tell them you re respectful, appreciative and open-minded. Explain how. And I would get rid of the "I wouldn t complain" part, and present positive affirmations. Also, don t say how you re not used to Japan s culture/lifestyle. Express how you want to experience it and learn from it. Also, speak from the heart. Good luck!
