Atticus Finch is one of the most steadfastly honest and moral characters in “To Kill a Mockingbird“ by Harper Lee and his character remains, for the most part.

"Scout," said Atticus, "nigger-lover is just one of those terms that don't mean anything—like snot-nose. It's hard to explain—ignorant, trashy people use it when they think somebody's favoring Negroes over and above themselves. It's slipped into usage with some people like ourselves, when they want a common, ugly term to label somebody."

"I certainly am. I do my best to love everybody. I'm hard put, sometimes—baby, it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn't hurt you." (11.107-109)

As a father, he is very good to his children and understands all their problems. He explains all of their questions well and raises they very well with discipline. He is like the perfect father, with logic and reason and has explains everything to the point. He makes sure Scott and Jem use proper conduct and behave well. He knows how to distinguish right from wrong. As an attorney, he is really good (best in his town). He defends what he believes is right and doesn t care what others think. He bases his opinions based on facts and evidence. By defending the African American (since they were accepted back then), he is showing that he has respect to everyone and is willing to open up to everyone. As a friend and neighbor, he offers his hospitality and is generous (I don t remember exactly how it was, but I think it was that he was working or doing somethine for his neighbors and since the neighbors were poor, they would pay him back in food, like nuts or something). This shows that he would like to have someone satisfied and doesn t care if someone is rich and poor, he treates everyone the same. Also, he makes sure Jem reads to the old lady and punishes Jem for Jem s bad actions. He wants to do good and knows how to discipline. He is also very polite, very well respected, and is a gentelman. He is also the perfect father (other than he doesn t spend THAT much time with his children).
