So your teacher assigned another essay to write. Does the mere thought of putting pen to paper – or fingers to the keyboard – send shivers down your spine? For many students in elementary, middle or high school, it does, but writing an essay shouldn’t be intimidating. As long as you know the basic steps of essay writing, you should be well-equipped to handle any essay topic.

There are many different types of essays you might be asked to write in elementary, middle or high school. Some of the most common include narrative, expository, argumentative, persuasive, comparative and literary. Are you presenting an overview or telling a story about the topic (narrative) or are you providing an analysis (expository)? Do you have to convince the reader to adopt a certain point of view or to take a particular action (persuasive)? Are you writing an essay about a book you read (literary)? Determining the type of essay is the first step to writing a targeted essay.

Have you ever tried counting how much time writing a single paper takes? Ever added up the time spent on writing essays and other assignments within a term? Within a year? A few years?

You can’t evaluate the full damage until you’ve seen the bigger picture. Research shows that an average student can spend up to 450 hours a term working on writing assignments. Can you imagine that? 450 hours! You could write a book in that time or do lots of other useful things. But instead, you are working on another essay that no one will appreciate (pessimistic but true).

Healthy people pay taxes longer so it is in the best interest of the government for the people to be in good health. The issue isn t so much that health care is unaffordable (although it really is) but that isn t available to everyone. Take my sister, who had a seriously rare tumor removed, has no long lasting health effects, but because of this rarity can t get covered. She has a very good job and is willing to pay more than the average joe since she has a "pre-exisiting condition" (although the condition is gone now but they still call it that) but no one will cover her. Everyone should have a RIGHT to health care and that doesn t necessarily mean it has to be free or even cheap but it should be available!
