Colleges that superscore the ACT - BS/MD Admissions by.

Many times, students who are not considering higher education rethink their plans when they see their ACT test results. This is especially true for underrepresented students. To support college and career planning, the ACT also offers a career exploration component to help students identify career options.

The ACT College and Career Readiness Standards are the backbone of ACT assessments. The standards are empirically derived descriptions of the essential skills and knowledge students need to become ready for college and career, giving clear meaning to test scores and serving as a link between what students have learned and what they are ready to learn next.

The ACT® test motivates students to perform to their best ability. Test scores reflect what students have learned throughout high school and provide colleges and universities with excellent information for recruiting, advising, placement, and retention.

ACT announced on June 28th, 2016 that as of the September 2016 test date ACT Writing scores will change once more. One of the most critical purposes of a test scale is to communicate information to the score user. In that regard, the 1-36 experiment with Writing was a failure. ACT has admitted that the scale “caused confusion” and created a “perceptual problem.” It is not yet clear if the new change piled onto the class of 2017’s already large load of changes will lessen the criticism that it has been receiving.

The essay task is not changing, and two readers will still be assigning 1-6 scores in four domains. ACT states, “Some language in the directions to the students has been modified to improve clarity.” It has not yet clarified what the clarification will be.

The SAT ( / ɛ s eɪ t i / ; es- AY -tee ) is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. Introduced in 1926, its name and scoring have changed several times; originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test , it was later called the Scholastic Assessment Test , then the SAT I: Reasoning Test , then the SAT Reasoning Test , and now, simply the SAT.

The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. [9] The College Board states that the SAT measures literacy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. They state that the SAT assesses how well the test takers analyze and solve problems—skills they learned in school that they will need in college. However, the test is administered under a tight time limit (speeded) to help produce a range of scores. [10]

Most colleges in the past have superscored the SAT but not the ACT. Recently, however, some colleges are starting to superscore the ACT. I first reported on superscoring the ACT in December, 2007. Here is a list of the colleges that I believe  currently do superscore the ACT.  If a college is not on the list, I have received no information that it superscores the ACT.  As I become aware of additional colleges I will add them to the list. This list is current as of  August 18, 2015.

One final note. I greatly appreciate all of the help that my readers have been providing by telling me which colleges superscore. However, my policy, to keep the list as accurate as possible, is to personally get confirmation from a college’s admissions department before putting them on the list unless their web site is very clear on ACT superscoring. So, keep sending me college’s that you have been told superscore the ACT, but it may take a bit before that college shows up on the list.

New SAT results and concordances are in! But what do they mean? How have scores changed from the old SAT? And how can scores help students determine whether the SAT or ACT should be favored?

The release of March SAT scores and the publication of New SAT concordance tables means that students are armed with more information about the respective merits of the SAT and ACT. Sometimes there are specific reasons why a student prefers one test over another: National Merit requirements, scheduling needs, or a strong negative reaction to a previous testing experience. For most students, however, the question comes down to “where is my time best spent?” Three common situations are:

the sat 1 essay is out of 12, not 6. I give you a 8, because it s a pretty good essay. Remember, the SAT essays are considered "rough drafts" for a reason, you can t exactly write a solid essay in 25 minutes! I love the quote in the beginning of the essay, but I wish you had pushed your point a tad more. Your thesis was clear, and concise, but your 2 body paragraphs need to be explaining more of what you want to tell the reader. it was great (really really great) to use history in your essay, but you should add in some other resources as well, books, or movies. This essay is one that I would actually enjoy reading, and the grammar is solid. Your 1st body paragraph is kind of contradictary, but that s because I m reading it way too harshly. For one, the graders only take a couple minutes reading over the essays. The score is only what I would give you, as a student. I cannot tell what you would actually recieve.

basics of the sat essay http://gothamtutoring.wordpress.com/category/sat/sat-writing/ your examples are good and in the correct order. but you need to commit to a clear, prompt-specific position right off the bat and to avoid reusing the same words, like nuclear, blame and good, several times i d like be wavering between 3 and 4. if you had 3 supports, or 2 supports both from history/literature, that would lock the 4 but as is, with 2 examples and 1 personal, probably a 3.
